I don't know why but that is some mis-information by Ford/dealers because the Ford molded ones will fit the front even trucks with step bars. The only trucks that they most likely don't fit are those with the molded platform running boards which are found standard on the King Ranch and optional black platforms on XL and XLT, because the platform boards extend forward up to the front wheelwell edge. It's been like this since 2004. I've seen a new Platinum with the Ford molded flaps front and rear.
I had the Ford molded ones on my old 04. I decided to try the Husky's on my 09. Also had them painted too, pics in my album. The Husky's seem more beefier and sturdy.

had my body shop guy spray them. I guess he uses PPG paint. So far holding up great since March, we'll see how they last this winter, but I"m sure they'll be fine. He also sprayed the mud guards on my wife's car and they are holding up just fine after 3 years.
