The rapter has the same engine, an the same TC controls, even with its "off-road" button.

No help for you, but I feel your pain. I was almost stuck several times today, while deer hunting in snow. The truck would not allow me to maintain wheel speed which is critical for momentum.

I cannot believe some of the ignorant responses of you pavement pounders. Go buy a civic!

Did you push the TC button at all, an was it in 2wd or 4wd that it didnt wanna let wheel spin?

4x4low with the locker engaged. Held the button for like ten seconds while in park. Trailer sway was also off. It did allow wheel spin but not like I needed. Felt like the system kept cutting engine power at a certain speed. There was probably 6" of snow on varying slopes. 50mph at the wheels would have probaly gotten me through with ease. Instead I had to stop, back down a hill, and give it another shot. I am kind of over the whole tc thing, I just deal with it the best I can.

On the streets the system is great, and I would never drive without it. It can read and react so quickly. By the time I realize I have lost control it has already corrected the problem, but off road there is no substitution for spinning wheels.

I cant say I will do enough high speed off roading to worry about much of this, however, can I blow a donut in the snow??? To turn off Trac control is one thing and simple, but is the engine gonna cut out when the wheels spin at over 35 MPH???

Wow some of you guys need to read the instruction manual. I have been driving in snow none stop for the last few days and i have turned my TC off and can spin the wheels as fast as i like. I done it just a few hours ago in a empty parking lot and the TC didnt cut in once when i turned it off. I was able to power slide it all around the parking lot for about 5 mins and not one case of TC cutting in. As soon as i turned it back on it would cut in as soon as the wheel started to lose traction. Also if you are driveing on cliffs and you are going that fast next to a massive drop of then you need to take a good look at how much of an idiot your being. Not just because your risking killing your self but also others. You shouldnt be going around any corner that fast in any vehicle without being in control. Your not a rally driver even though some think they are. You never know whats around that next corner. Remember if your in control of your vehicle then none of these functions will cut in. They only cut in if you lose control. As an example your ABS only cuts in if you brake to hard for the conditions, Your TC cuts in when your giving to much power for conditions and your RSC cuts in only when you out of control. You aint on a private race track with rescue teams and medical care on hand.

Its the fact that you have to hold the button down again and again everytime you pass 35mph...

But you don't. It clearly says this in the instruction manual and i have tested it i have forgotten How many times with my own truck in the snow and ice. I had to pull over a 1ft high ice ramp the plow had made for me out the front of my drive this morning. My front wheels hit the bump and my rears were on ice and i though I'm gonna try and force my way over without going into 4wd. Pushed the TC button for 5 secs and the wheels spun like crazy but couldn't get out so i put it ino 4wd and tried to do the same but it climbed right over with zero wheel spin. But when you want it permanently off then hold the button down and it wont come back on until you turn the truck off and back on or press the button again. Simple test is to goto some damp land with some grass and test for your self if you don't believe what Ford says.

Do a donut in the snow after you hold the button down for 5 seconds...then drive past 35mph, then try and do a donut after that...It wont do it. Ive done it many times when driving down logging roads to hunt...

I did do that. When i pulled out of my drive. I turned it off, spun the wheels up to try and move but couldnt so changed to 4x then got out then changed back to 2x then hit spped of 55-60mph then ended up in the car parking lot 5 mins later and done some power slids. Freaked the wife out then got a some food. Come out and TC had turned back on after i shut engine down.

But if your trucks not acting like the way it's ment to then i would get it looked at. Mine does exactly what the book says it will do.

I'm quoting this just to agree. Too many people like to say "I have control of my vehicle I don't need any stupid assistance." I'm not denying that in rare cases in off-road situations it MAY cause more harm than good, but 99.9% of the time, if you're spinning out or braking too hard or any of the other things that will cause the safety systems to kick in, you're most definitely not in control and should revise the way you're driving in treacherous conditions.

why do people have to feel that they are responsible for others? who cares if they are going to be out of control and smoke a tree. even if they hit someone else...crap happens. this is a truck forum not a driving forum.

Well if you hit my wifes car with the kids in it and killed them you better hope that you got somewhere to hide. People who think like you are the reason drink drivers and reckless drivers kill so many people a year and yes this is a truck forum. Not the WRC forum for people who think they are rally drivers.
