What is the idea behind it? I was just looking at pricing for everything by 'creating' a truck on their site and saw it. Never heard of it before, and kinda pissed about no more flareside.. Love my 01 flareside.

Anyway. SO what is the platinum?

Uh... well... it's a trim level. If you are looking for some sort of answer beyond that, I think you're out of luck. I think you probably saw it when you tried to build that it's the top-of-the-line trim level. It replaces the Lincoln F-150.

Platinum is just another model...higher end. It has more features/options than the standard models. I'll let the Plat owners tell you all about it.

Maybe Ford needs a "Tungsten Carbide" for 2011.

You can compare the standard and optional equipment for each trim level here. There are 9 including XLT, FX4, Lariat, and Platinum.

You gotta be kidding me - right When will it ever end...they have been shamelessly copying the F-150 all the way back to the T-100 (gee isn't that naming convention familiar). I guess imitation is considered the most sincere form of flattery though...

Talking

LOL

I think it's awesome how they keep copying Ford.

They're always so focused on copying & integrating Ford's old ideas into their "trucks" that they will never actually try to build one better than Ford so we'll always be ahead, same as we have for the past 33 years in a row. Go, go toy "trucks".

Pretty sure calling something that's an expensive luxury item "platinum" wasn't a particularly unique idea on Ford's part.

Actually I think there were Escalade Platinums before the F-150... how come Ford stole that idea from Cadillac?

Phreak,
The Platinum was influenced by the Super Chief concept. Watch these videos for everything you ever wanted to know about the Platinum and how it came to be:

I just think that it's awesome that the FX4 is listed higher (due to a higher base price) than the Lariat, answering the age-old question of which is better!

What do you all think is better? Given that 90% of everyone here knows more about these trucks than I do.

Hell reading up on all their models now it doesn't seem like an xlt isn't such a big deal. with a supercharged , ultimate off road and luxury trucks that they have now.

Oh, and I've been wondering if/how much better the new suspension is on the newer models?

Ignorance!

The better truck for any given person may or may not include specific options, features, standard equipment, styling and/or materials. Real doesn't want either FX4 or Lariat because he does not want the 5.4L.

BTW, I have a Lariat FX4!
