3.0 supports turn by turn directions, weather, traffic info, etc. 3.0 is only available for 2010 model year forward. The 2010's have a GPS unit built in, whereas the 2009's do not. So version 2.0 is currently the most up to date version of sync for 2009 model year vehicles.

Sync 3.0 is different from Sirius Travel Link, although they both offer similar features.

The owner to owner forums on syncmyride.com have a lot of good info and one of the Microsoft developers is on there and answers questions from time to time, kind of like Deano on this site. A valuable resource.

Well, I decided to see what my phone could do with SYNC in the FX4.
First I registered my vehicle at syncmyride.com and configured for VHR.

Then I started the truck and went through the first time bluetooth pairing process.
I had to rename my SYNC connection on the FX4 so that my SYNC on my MKS would also still recognize my phone.

Once it paired, I downloaded my phonebook. Then I went through the phone options and set up my ringer, enabled 911 assist, and a couple of other tweaks. Then I ran a vehicle health report. Just like on my MKS, every time I run a VHR, I have to do it twice to have it be successful. I still haven't figured out why that is. The same thing happened on the FX4. The good news is that the VHR ran and I could access it at syncmyride.com

Then I made a phone call to see if I have the volume issue that the OP posted about. Sure enough, the volume decreased as soon as my phone connected. Volume was OK when I ended the call.

I just noticed that the volume on my phone is turned down very low, so my next experiment will be to turn up the volume on my phone and try a call with sync again. I'll also have to do some comparison with the MKS as I hadn't noticed any volume differences in the MKS.

If all else fails, well then there is always the TSB posted earlier - Thanks for that info.

I just tried the suggestion for the Blackberry but it did nothing as far as I can tell. I did it in the driveway. I'll try it later when I run out to do the errands for the wife

My truck does that. I don't think the phone matters; I think it's the head unit. It lowers the volume to some default level (which is too low for my geezer ears) every time you change the input. Try changing from the radio to CD, to USB, to phone, etc.

I think they do it so you won't be startled if the other input was at a really blasting level and you forget and then you switch back to it and jump.

Anyway to keep the volume constant?

Thanks!
I had this problem with my iPhone. The iPhone has a volume control for Bluetooth audio. I increased it to max and it improved tremendously but is still not as loud as I'd like it. Check out your phone manual and see if it has something similar.

No... because it shouldn't take a year for Ford to fix this kind of problem.

I'm in the same boat and it drives me nuts!!!

Small inconvenience to turn the volume up on EACH call ... but there should be a way for it to remember!!!

I have an iPhone, I have this same problem. I didn't know about the bluetooth audio volume on my phone. Looking at that right now. I have a 2010, but a born on date of 9/28/09, I do I have 2.0 or 3.0? Is there an advantage to upgrading? How do I upgrade?

Funny how a year old thread is still relavent as those of us just buying these things have the same old problems others have had for some time. One would think the dealerships or Ford itself (sync) would've fixed it before handing over the keys.
IPhone 3gs and 2010 Platinum... just browsing all the forums for fixes to the problems and found it's not a new problem at all.
