Exclamation 2" AS Big Problems for my 09

After insalling the 2" AS on my 09 I notice that at any dips in the road my coils hit the upper A arm!

So bummed out I don't know what to do. Only other choice would be either coilovers or waiting for bilstein to produce the adjustable 5100's.

Anybody else notice this?

Probably a stupid question, but was everything reinstalled correctly? I have a 2 1/2" AS kit and I don't have any issues.

Sounds like you installed it wrong, they are offset to push the coilover in and away from the upper a-arm.

BTW, bilstein is selling the 5100s

Everything was installed just the way it came off. I was over there shoulder the whole time.

Went to a second shop today for a second opinion. It was installed correct unless the spacers are side specific then that could be the problem.

The bilsteins are out for the 08 and prior but not the new 09-10 yet. I called corporate and it should be a few more months.

some coil spacer are not off set and will cause it to hit the spring but it should only touch when it is jacked up off the ground

RIght. This was an issue on the AS and other leveling kits for the 04-08 trucks. AS redesigned their kit with the top and bottom offset slightly to prevent this. It's not a big problem and it doesn't hurt anything. But some people found the noise the coil made when it touched the control arms irritating.

Is the offset noticable to the naked eye? Or is it so slight you probably couldn't tell.

Also, Wandell if mine are hitting and causing some wear marks (chipping paint off to bare metal) could it cause any problems in the long run? I feel like my truck isn't safe to go off road with the thoughts of any suspension travel is going to force tension on my upper A arms by the coils. Any advice would be very helpful.

I seriously can't wait for the 5100's to come out. They should fix this problem and provide a bit better suspension.

I think the wear marks you see are gonna be the extent of it.

I noticed another problem tonight. As I was going over a slight hill to a downhill turning to the right once again this time not braking it did the noise for a split second and forced my steering wheel straight!

Could my coil hitting the A-arm cause my stearing to be forced a direction? I am really getting worried now and I use this truck for work. Please help!

Are you sure you are not rubbing the lower plastic on the bumper? My truck was doing this until I got the plastic trimmed enough for it to stop. If you dont want to trim the plastic you can pull that piece off and see if the rubbing stops. If it does you know it is rubbing on the plastic.

I trimmed the plastic plenty so no rubbing there... plus it would make sense why the braking was a problem giving me that terrible noise and feel of loss of power through my brakes.

I am offly depressed I already screwed up my '09.

I originally thought I trimmed mine enough. That was not the case. I was able to stop one day when I heard noise and felt the rubbing, and physically saw it rubbing. I was having the same symptons you are describing especially when making a turn with some wheel articulation.

If you are not rubbing then it has to be the AS level kit or installation. Too many people are running leveling kits and big tires with no issues besides rubbing. Good luck in your witch hunt -

I have a Hellbent steel leveling kit and have had some issues like yours. It sounds almost like the ABS system is engaging and growling at you right? I took mine to the dealership because my traction control light was coming on when it was happening. They said it was the trailer sway control kicking on and that it was not a drive-ability issue. I haven't checked to see if I have any wear marks but I will tomorrow.

Yes! Someone else with the same sounds as me lol. Yea it sounds like a grinding groul and sure enough my A-arms and the bar attached to the A-arm is hitting the coils. I am going to have the spacers removed tomorrow and just wait until bilstein comes out with their 5100's for my '09. Pics coming soon let me upload.
