Bad news for Modders (Raptor)

well we ordered in a Raptor grill assy as soon as the part number was avialable and it won't fit on a standard F150 you would have to replace the whole hood.

but for your FYI the grill was $1000 retail and a hood is about $1500 CND plus paint.

maybe

yup

but our dealer isn't a SVT dealer so we can't order the Raptor so we are thinking of building a clone for the showroom but were not sure how deep we are going to go with it. if it will just be apearance or if we will be doing the suspension mods as well. if we do do it, it should be a fun build.

didn't you guys/dealer look at the pictures of the Raptor first? It is pretty obvious the grille and hood is different from the standard F150. The hood wraps down and the grille goes straight across and lines up with the top of the headlights. as you know, the standard F150 grilles extend up higher in the middle, above the top of the headlights.

Isn't the Raptor 7 inches wider than a regular F150 or is it just the track width that is wider?

Yep it was pretty easy to see it wouldn't fit. But what about the headlights???

The entire frame is 7 inches wider, thus everything else being wider. So next to nothing from a 2010 or 2009 150 will transfer exterior wise

The entire frame is 7" wider? While I admit I don't know exactly where the raptor gets its width, I know the frame isn't wider. It would cost a ton to make a frame specifically for the raptor. I doubt that the rear axle is even wider. It's just some 12.5" wide tires mounted on low backspacing wheels, with some larger fenders to keep the rocks from flying. So virtually everything will transfer.

just to clarify we were well aware of how the hood is, we wanted to see if we could mod the Raptor grill into the center section of the F150. and the only way to do that was to buy one.

the Raptor grill fits the demensions but the bolt pattern makes it a much bigger mod them we were hoping for..

I pulled this from the specs off of the Ford web site. You will notice that the Raptor is an overall width of a little more that 7" (I suspect that it is the offset on the tires and the tire width). But, you will notice the overall width with mirrors are exactly the same. This indicates that the truck itself is the same frame/body. Just my observation.

The width comes from the wider lower/upper a-arm. Like after market long travel suspension.

So is only the front wider or did they make the rear axle wider too? Seems too costly to widen the rear, unless they just used spacers. Maybe the front wheels are high offset and the rear low?

If you figure that a standard f150 has 7.5" wide wheels with 5.5" backspacing, then a 9" wide wheel with 4.5" backspacing should stick out 2.5" further than the standard wheel. So there is any easy 5" of width without even considering the wider tires.
