Ha 80 bucks for a synthetic oil change. I was quoted 140 (Canadian).

Both amounts are insane.

I use to do the oil change, rotate my tires, change my plugs, check the transmission, transfer case and axle oil year ago but have become complacent in my old age. Some might call it lazy. I find that I have many other things to do around the house, yard, work, etc that I don’t seem to have the time. I still replace the air cleaner because that is easy. You use to not care about duping the oil in the trash, but now we must recycle which means a second trip to the local parts store.

Also, when I hit my first 7500, I was 2000 miles from home, so it was off to the local Ford shop in Florida to get them to do it.

Look at what it costs across the river, in Port Huron. I think the dealer is Bluewater Ford. Also, check online. Some dealers have specials.

I have always done my own oil changes. On my Jeep I do everything and my 35" BFGs are seriously heavy! I'll probably go with the dealer on the first oil change and tire rotation, but after that I'll do it myself. I have the right tools and a big enough garage/shop to do it in; plus I like doing this work and still feeling like I am playing a part in maintaining my own vehicle. Remember the 'kid' they use to do oil changes is not always the sharpest tack in the shop.

I just passed 15,000 and need to do my scheduled maint. Anyone know what Ford changes for it?

Here is what Ford recommends:

* Change engine oil and replace oil filter (Up to 5 quarts of oil. Perform at specified mileage interval or every 6 months, whichever occurs first)
* Inspect brake pads/shoes/rotors/drums, brake lines and hoses, and parking brake system
* Inspect engine cooling system and hoses
* Perform multi-point inspection
* Rotate and inspect tires; check wheel end play and turning noise
* Inspect complete exhaust system and heat shields
* Inspect and lubricate all non-sealed steering linkage,ball joints,suspension joints,half and drive-shafts and u-joints
* Inspect engine air filter
* Inspect automatic transmission fluid level (if equipped with underhood dipstick)

Answered my own question - $21.95 + oil change.

Changed mine today in my garage didn't even have to get my ramps out there was plenty of room to slide under the truck on my creeper. Used Mobil 1 and Motorcraft filter. Filter was on tight but had it off in a couple of minutes with my double jaw filter wrench. Pisses me off the location they put filter, had oil running all over everything so had to clean up that mess. Lower hose lays right next to the oil filter and i was afraid with the filter on so tight i might poke a hole in the hose but got the filter off no problems.

Cool yeah but I like to know my F1-Fifty

I rather work on my f1 Fifty than let someone who is a tech in a shop turn wrenches,the guy could be a blowtie or worse import lover and I am sure he or she could not give a rats azz about my F1 Ffifty.
If I have a prob then I will take it to the rip me off all the way to the shop dealership, but until that time comes I will do my own PMS.(preventitive maintaince schedule) and also look at these fourms...

I am sorry " but I love my F1 Fifty and when I bought it I knew I had the Best Bad Azz truck in the County."

Very much agreed . Just did my oil yesterday myself and was the hardest thing ever, never been so agitated on working on my truck. Sure felt great finally getting it off, with blood running down my fingers.. haha

i do all my oil changes but the first one was a bear!! that filter is basically welded to the engine so have the right wrench and make sure your friend with the biggest muscles is around!!! the tire rotation is easily manageable....

Since this post was resurrected from the grave, I'll say with the price of oil change at the local dealer, it doesn't make sense to do it yourself:

I agree. My dealer charges me anywhere from $15 to $25 for an oil and filter change, depending on what coupon they send out. Been taking it in for 5 years now. They get it done in about 30 minutes, just not worth me messing with it.

I have done ALL the service work on my previous vehicles. Trans flushes, cooling system flushes, oil changes etc. I never had anyone ask me for any service records nor did the last guy I sold my 97 F-150 to with 270,000 miles on it. Most people undestand that if you service a vehicle regularly, and drive is sensibly, it will last. I do both with mine, except when I am driving to a fire!! Use good parts, and do good work, and your vehicle will last.
