New 6.2l engine endures extreme testing

http://media.ford.com/article_displa...ticle_id=30843

Hmmmm so if it was in the 'ol regular F150 would it still require the additonal 20% larger grille opening?

So you put that heavy beast in a platinum SCrew... whats the payload down to? 500lbs?

My feeling is the payload will go up, not down. They will find a way to increase it some how. What good is a 6.2 if you can't haul anything? Hopefully the heavy duty payload package will make its way to all trim levels with the nice wheels that were spied awhile ago. Just make the heavy duty payload package available on everything like they are doing with the FX4 package on the Super Duty. You made some good points on the other forum. So I will repost them here:

i) 400/400 is not set in stone, that is the minimum. Why would Ford tip their hand so soon?

ii) GMs 6.2 truck engine makes 403 on premium. Fords ratings are on regular. I've read elsewhere the gm 6.2 makes 384hp on regular. Not sure about tq.

Why dont you guys want the 5.0? You get your 400 hp but a lot better mileage.

Not in a truck. Supposedly the truck version of the 5.0 will be under 350, with similar torque to the 5.4

Power band and under the curve. Those might have "400" hp, but the torque curve compared to the 6.2 will look puney. I'm sure with a few bolt on mods and tunes with the 6.2, 500hp N/A are some numbers we will start seeing at the flywheel.

I can't wait for boost to come out for the 6.2L... We will start seeing some awesome numbers.

Ford says the EB never mind the 6.2 will be premium offering over the 5.0L.

When is the 6.2L slated to come into the F150? I have read a bunch of conflicting info about the release.. I know it comes in the raptor this winter, but It seems 2011, 2012 is an average for the release into the F150. I'm thinking ill wait to purchase till the 6.2 is out but hate to wait forever (over a year )

just read in a official ford release that the 2011 f-150 orders will be placed on nov 22 2010. that is very odd and I would assume by that there are major changes at that time....

You know at first I thought that too. Why have launch 3 months later than for the 2010, probably then true that all the new engines will be in @ 2011.

OR as one poster on one of these Ford sites claims the new engines or at least some of them will hit job 2 2010 model. Which would be early next year. This makes sense to me as they could then stretch out the 2010 MY>

I am a little biased though as I didn't want to wait until Dec/2010.

Land Rover has a new 5.0L N/A and S/C versions. All aluminum engines, which we wont see in a F150, but still the numbers are impressive. And yes Land Rover's engine is made by Ford

375/375 in N/A trim
510/461 with S/C

Dual Independent Variable Camshaft Timing system (DIVCT), an industry first
The latest-generation supercharger on the LR-V8 Supercharged works alongside the two-stage Variable Intake Manifold (VIM) to improve airflow for low-speed torque and high-speed power.
ENGINE DATA V8
Capacity 5.0 Liters
No. of cylinders 8
Cylinder layout Longitudinal V8
Bore inches (mm) 3.6 inches (92.5mm)
Stroke inches (mm) 3.7 inches (93mm)
Compression ratio (:1) 11.5 (+/-0.5)
Cylinder head material Aluminum
Cylinder block material Aluminum
Ignition system Denso pan PAG EMS Generation 1.6
Valves per cylinder 4
Maximum power bhp @ rpm 375 @ 6,500
Maximum torque lb-ft @ rpm 375 @ 3,500
ENGINE DATA V8 SUPERCHARGED
Capacity 5.0 Liters
No. of cylinders 8
Cylinder layout Longitudinal V8
Bore inches (mm) 3.6 inches (92.5mm)
Stroke inches (mm) 3.7 inches (93mm)
Compression ratio (:1) 9.5 (+/-0.5)
Cylinder head material Aluminum
Cylinder block material Aluminum
Ignition system Denso pan PAG EMS Generation 1.6
Valves per cylinder 4
Maximum power bhp @ rpm 510 @ 6,000 - 6,500
Maximum torque lb-ft @ rpm 461 @ 2,500-5,500
Look at the max torque on the S/Ced, max torque from 2500-5500 RPMS. thats a hell of a torque curve

Is Ford sandbagging the 400/400 estimate?
