Terrible Clunk When Coming Out of Park

I noticed whenever I am parked on the slightest incline and I go out of park it sounds as if my transmission is going to fall off the truck. I always park with the parking break. Any idea how to stop it from doing this? Or is it safe and normal?

Thanks

if you are parked on incline it will do it, it just the pressure against the park pawl in the trans, it is normal and damage will not be done.

Do you set the parking brake before you put it in Park? If not then try doing it this way, it'll help keep some of the pressure off the parking pawl in the tranny.

That's what I always do. I put it in neutral, set the park brake, take my foot off the regular brake so all the weights on the park brake then put it in park. It's quite a process

I usually just go into Park holding the break and when in park holding the break still I put the parking break on.

Ok I will do that from now on so it takes the pressure off of the tranny. It seems like a process but worth it to not hear that terrible sound lol.

It's actually not as bad as it sounds. It takes an extra 3 seconds to do really.
