Trans cooler much smaller on 09's

Looked at some 09 F150's yesterday. One thing I noticed was the trans cooler was much smaller than on my 07. Sets up higher in the center front of the radiator. Cannot believe it is smaller though.

One thing is that where it sits, it has much better air flow that previous years, IMO. Also you have the tran temp gauge, which you could not get before.

Maybe there's lesser fluid to cool? Dunno, just guessing.

I would say they found the larger cooler to be overkill. I have a 09 FX4 with tow package and have done some very heavy towing with no issues at all with over heating the tranny. They could have also added lovers to the case itself. Not sure but until there is an issue with it then I see no need for concern.

Honestly I do not think there is such a thing as over kill with keeping tranny cool. I don't like the idea of my cooler being probably 8-9 inches wide as opposed to 4 inches wide. MUCH less surface area for cooling fins. Just my opinion. yes it has been relocated to directly in front of rad.

if you are talking about the black cooler sitting in front of the rad, thats the power steering cooler, the trans cooler is part of the rad/ac condenser assy.

That's what I thought - OP was looking at the PS cooler.
