I was just quoted $2300 for parts only with a one-year limited warranty.

The BDS 6" IFS w/ Strut was $2300 installed with a lifetime warranty on everything but the shocks...

I believe you have to pick out shocks seperately, so the 1500 dollars for the kit may not include shocks, whereas the 2300 quote may include everything.

The kit was developed using 18's...I wonder how it would respond to 20 inch wheels and tires?

A quick update. I didn't believe that the Rancho kit came with only a one year limited warranty so I just called them up.

There is a lifetime limited warranty to the original purchaser on all Rancho parts and accessories, including the kit and the shocks, without coverage to physical damage. The warranty also does not cover fleet applications.

Just wanted to update this information to anyone still interested in the Rancho, as I am. It's still expensive, coming in at around $2300 parts only for the full kit including shocks, but it's a nice compromise if you don't want to go with a 6" BDS lift at $2000 installed.

I think I might be leaning toward the Rancho now.

Hi, I have a Lariat and wondering if you have any tips for dune bashing the thing here in UAE? I haven't fitted any lift kits or extras and I would prefer not to. I don't go into the desert too often but I regularily want to drive on the beach and have struggle so far. My girlfriends Fortuna 4l kicks my F150s *** on the beach which is a bit embarrasing!

Hey Dave_Dubai,

I am surprised that the Fortuna kicks ***. What tires do you have on? If it is the Al Tayer stock, they are useless.

I have a Lariat 2005 SCrew, with bigger tires and a bash plate. I always go into the desert, especially the Liwa. I love the car. I didn't install a lift or levelling kit, and most of the time I was fine. OK, sometimes you bottom out more than others, especially in the front, and the length of the car (5.5 bed) also meant I had to drive diffenently, i.e take the dues differently. But this was made up by it's totaly awesome power and torque.
I also bought the new 2009 FX4 SCrew with a 6.5 bed in February. I have put on bigger tires (Cooper Discoverer STT 285/70 R 17 - therefore keeping the stock rims), a bash plate from ICON, and a 2.5" levelling kit ordered from the States (only around US$ 150) and the car is nice. So not really so much gear. I went out in the desert this weekend, and the clearance is good enough. Sand dunes won't damage the car anyways, unless of-course you fly across them. I had difficutly with the traction control and only after reading the manual did I find out that you have to drive below 56km/h and hold the bottom on the dash for more than 5 seconds to disable all the system. After that, all went well. Maybe that is why your car is underperforming on the beach?

Although I was debating on the Rancho 4" lift for the new Ford (ProComp 6" is too high - can't even fit into the Dubai Mall garage with that), I think I will stick to my levelling kit and the bigger tires. That should be fine.

Let me know what you decide upon.
