Paint on hood cracking?
Go to Home Depot and get some Stainless Steel Cleaner designed for kitchens, it will be in the area for home cleaning supplies. Its in an aerosol can and is citrus based(usually). Spray it on a rag and then wipe the stainless clean. The citrus really cleans up the stainless, only thing I have found to get stainless really clean and keep it protected.
So, it is IMPOSSIBLE for them to match the factory paint. That orange peel effect can not be matched by the dealer. Trust me. I had an 05 F150 with paint issues less than 2 weeks after I bought it. The primer was bleeding through in about 4 or 5 different spots on the hood and passenger side. It could only be seen when the sun was at certain angles. Make your dealer engage the local Ford representative. At first they told me that a repaint of the hood, fender, and door would fix my issue. The problem with the new paint on those 3 areas was that it came back smooth as glass. I told the Ford rep to give me a new truck, or wet sand this truck, put two coats of black, and two coats of clear on it. I really hated to sell that truck to my brother recently as it was by far the most beautiful paint job that I didn't have to pay for. :-) My black 09 Platinum is a better truck, but the 05 still shines better than my brand new 09.
I have the same problem on my 09 Platinum. Looks like bad water spots. I noticed it the first time that I washed the truck, but i didn't say anything to the dealer until yesterday(that was stupid). The service writer said that she would submit the pictures she took of the hood and try to get my hood repainted. Man, I sure do hate to have a 6wk old truck painted on! I guess if they offer to do that, I'll either have to accept, or shut up. I don't guess I have any other options... Or Do I?
What did you find out?
