Diesel F-150.... Will it ever happen?

Just wondering if there's any new information out there I might have missed about the 4.4 Diesel that's been delayed. I would love to see this engine option, but it sounds like from what I've read that this engine has been indefinitely delayed and may never happen.

I would be among the first in line for an F-150 Diesel if they ever made it. I'm sorry to see it get shelved.

I bet it got shelved next to the smaller displacement motor Isuzu made for Chevy. Too bad they don't know we want it so so bad. I want torque, decent economy, noise, and to blow black smoke. I will pay the extra cost of fuel, please...any automaker...Bueller?

I have an inkling as to why they aren't putting a diesel in the half tons. I believe they saw the signs ahead and put the haults on it. Those who set the standards for air quality (fed admin, epa, etc) continue to put more and more restrictions on pollution... this includes diesels. Ford probably knew that they would have to castrate the specs of the half ton diesel so much to make it legal that it wasnt even worth it any more with current diesel technology.
Just my .02.

A new emissions compliant diesel would give you one of those things. And it ain't decent economy, noise, or black smoke

This is true. EPA/Government is making the automakers put so much emissions equipment on the new diesels that the only real benefit they have over gas engines is a nice torque curve. None of the new diesels get the fuel economy (while unloaded) of what they used to. Not to mention how expensive replacing the DPF filter would be (especially if you got a tuner so you could blow smoke, that'll kill that DPF filter even faster), or to refuel on Urea.

This is why they are putting the Ecoboost 3.5L in. It has a very nice torque curve much like a diesel and it doesn't carry the premium of one.

Very true. I've been driving '07 Chevy 2500 Duramax diesel at work for a little bit, and it don't smell anything like diesel... in fact, it doesn't have that much of a smell at all compared to a 6.0l PS diesel for example. And quiet.. sheesh, it sounds like a gas engine.

I'm curious to see how that engine will hold up after 100,000 miles of towing, hauling......

I have no confidence in a small motor in a large truck, no matter the power or how many turbo's they stick on it...

Maybe my old school way of thinking is off on this, but if you wanted to actually use your truck, you had better have gotten the biggest powerplant they offer in the vehicle or you'd be in trouble with the wear and tear you put on it after a while. Pretty much the only reason I skipped the 4.6 and went with a 5.4 in my current truck. I want it to last as long as possible without any major problems.

There are videos on the internet and articles describing all of the testing Ford has done to the "little" 3.5 Not going to look for them now but they are out there. Unfortunately Ford is expecting 150k out of the motors so far.

I highly doubt and forsee Ford putting a diesel engine in the F150, but with the direction Ford is going I can definately see them putting a turboed V6 or
V8 in to adhere to the new mileage standards Obama put into place with the new mpg bill.

if GM and Dodge wouldn't have ended up in bankruptcy then we would three 1/2 diesel trucks, but now with no one to compete against and the rise in price on diesel, it just doesn't make sense for Ford to spend the money. the ecoboost will be in the F150 with more horse power then the current 5.4L with even better fuel economy.

Ford has the v6 diesel ready to go, its the same one that is in our new cab over transport truck, so its all dollars and sense whether it comes out or not.

I would love to put a diesel into my F150. Would definitly pay the extra money for it, gotta love the fact that you can get at least 300,000 miles on it
