Sync dead
Sync dead
My F150 is just over two weeks old now and SYNC has been working well upto this point.
Today I tried to hit the VOICE button - nothing. PHONE button - nothing. No response from SYNC even if I hit the PHONE button on the dash.
I pulled the 5A fuse for the SYNC. It is fine. I turned the key to the ON position to 'reboot' the SYNC system, then OFF, then put the fuse back in. Still no go.
Guess off to the dealer it is sometime next week to get this figured out.
Anyone else run into anything like this?

Well apple and Microsoft are like oil and water. My iphone acts up all the time. I was told that is just the way it is by the dealer.
I am going to do a full radio swap and new speakers so I could care less if sync works well or not.

Surprisingly, this morning, it is working again! I swear I tested it out after plugging the fuse back in so I have no clue what might have changed.
I too have thought about swapping the stock stereo out to replace with the Kenwood DX8120 (I think that is the right mode). Unfortunately right now I don't have confidence on whether the buttons on the steering (at least the volume and skip) will work and what Metra's dash will look like. The FX4 has a unique looking dash which is black and textured and I don't think Metra has anything that will quite match it.
I find the stock stereo fine for me. I want to add Navigation so I was going to cleanly mount a Garmin portable permanently. Not being able to get to my podcasts is a pain though and it might sway me back to the Kenwood.
Hi
My Sync system is giving me grief as well. Sometimes when I hit the Aux button to listen to my MP3s, the display says Sync for about half a second then kicks back to the radio. The media button on the steering wheel does not work and my bluetooth phone does not connect. The problem is intermittent and my dealership claims they couldn't duplicate the problem. Since the dealer didn't believe me, I brought it in when the system was dead. The dealer reflashed the system and the problem still exists. This sounds like defective hardware to me. I am bringing my truck in one more time and if the dealer doesn't replace the hardware, Ford corporate will be hearing from me.

I just bought a new 2011 XLT Supercrew and i hope Im not going to have sync problems like im reading here. So far mine is working fine. But Being a brand new truck with warranty isnt this covered? Id like to think for what we pay, ford will handle electrical issues happily, and thank us for buying their product.

Well i have been trying many things. I recommend you turn your bluetooth on until your truck is on. This may be annoying to some. But since I have a droid dock the bluetooth turns on when docked and turns off when undocked.
Sooo..
Dont leave flash drives plugged in. put them in when the truck is on. Take them off before powering off.
Turn on your bluetooth until your truck is on.
Turn your bluetooth off before powering your truck off (make sure the bluetooth icon on your sync display is no longer there, then power off the truck).
This has been been working fine for me. If I do anything different my Sync messes up and I have to go pull the Sync Fuse for a reboot.
In regards to the fuse there are times you need to pull it out. Power truck on , Power off. and do this several times. then put the fuse back in and it will work. Then there are times when one pull will do the trick.
Edit: I have no experiences with ipods or large storage devices.

I have been experiencing these same issues. Since I bought the truck (February), SYNC and my iPhone have not gotten along consistently. Sometimes it’s fine, other times it doesn’t work. Here is a partial list of problems that occur:
1: I push the AUX button to listen to iPod (on my iPhone) and SYNC comes up for about 1 second and then goes to the FM radio. I usually have to unplug the USB cable for a few seconds to fix.
2: After the iPod has been playing, if I turn the engine off / remove keys to go into a store, when I restart the truck the iPod will not skip track or go back to a different track. I have to request a different artist and then it works.
Or
3: After the iPod has been playing, if I turn the engine off / remove keys , when I restart the truck the message center says “Play Menu” instead of resuming the song where it left off. I have to request USB again, and then pick an artist or album.
4: At least twice it has completely shut down, and I’ve had to shut the truck off and restart it to get SYNC or the phone controls to work.
5: Sometime the phone doesn’t connect when I get in, sometimes it does.
I figured these issues have been a Microsoft / Apple problem; it is very interesting to see others having the same problems. I guess the SYNC system has some bugs.

Sometimes I don't use it for weeks, but it always goes back to where it stopped even when switching the media input.
I've never had to re-boot or download anything from RidemySync. (or whatevah!)
Occasionally, when I request the phone, sync sez, "There is no phone available, I will try to connect one" and five seconds later I'm connected.
I would think that if you have to use certain procedures to have sync work properly, something is wrong.
I use a BB Storm and so far, no complaints. I stream Slacker with BT constantly and sometimes when I remote start "Chester the Molester" my phone connects while I'm still in my crib.

I am with you. That is almost exactly what is happening to mine. I have a 2010 that is not only doing that, but when I stop and run in somewhere and come back the ipod won't play, it will have switched itself to FM or AM. For no reason.
Also, if I select a Genre to play, if I shut the truck off and restart it, the music will sometimes come back on, but it will not continue to play that genre, but it will continue to play the album of the last song played. It is very frustrating, that you have to reselect an Artist of Genre and play the same songs over again every time you stop. Makes no sense at all. Called sync my ride and they said to bad.
I like the sync, but there are clearly some isssues with it.

I don't have any problems with leaving my 5g flash drives connected all the time.

I too have had a few SYNC issues.
I have had truck for 8 days now.
I have been having intermittent issues with a 2GB flash drive. SYNC seems to forget about it when engine gets shut off. When I return to vehicle the system defaults to Radio and has forgotten about the USB drive. The radio push buttons don't seem to find the USB drive. But if I use the Voice commands and tell it "USB" it finds it no problem.
Think I solved this problem the other day by selecting AM/FM before shutting off truck. When I return I can scroll using the media button and the USB drive is where it is supposed to be.
I'm guessing the software has a hard time interpreting the push button commands and the system would prefer the voice controls or a dedicated keyboard (or touch panel) The button interface is shaky at best.
2nd problem.
Yesterday I tried plugging in my Sansa Fuse MP3 player into the USB port. With the Fuse in MTP mode it connected just fine. But I forgot to select AM/FM before I shut off the truck. When I returned and started the truck SYNC was dead. As in nothing. The Fuse was also locked up hard. The Fuse screen was lit but blank. It took a hard reset to the Fuse to get it back (Hold the power button up for 10+ seconds). The second time I started the truck SYNC came back but had lost my Bluetooth connection to my phone. I just read the troubleshooting on Syncmyride.com and got it back working. It took resetting the Bluetooth device list on both the phone and SYNC in order to get them working again.
Moral of the story I am up and running now. I don't think I will plug my Sansa Fuse in again.
I will select AM/FM before shutting off!
I will select AM/FM before shutting off!

.....
Hope this helps someone.

I had an issue once in my '09 where the dealer simply unhooked the battery and re-hooked. This basically 'rebooted' the computers and the problem was solved.
The problem I had was similar to what someone mentioned above where they'd hit the sync button and the it would just go right back to the radio. Kind of like the sync was crashing.
