Q for Deano re. AVG L/100km

Figured I might as well post here for other Canucks to see the reply instead of sending you a PM Deano.

If the message center is configured to use Metric - as is the default for trucks sold in Canada, the AVG fuel economy screen only shows the number rounded to a full L/100km i.e. it will either show 12 or 13 but no 12.1, 12.5 etc.

OTOH, if you change the display to English, it shows AVG MPG with one digit after the decimal point i.e 17.5, 17.6 etc.

This is a bit of an annoyance and silly on Ford's part if you ask me.

I've changed it to MPG just to get the extra digit past the decimal point but I'd really rather stay in Metric for the other information (temperature, odometer, trip odometer etc.)

Deano - any idea if there is an sort of fix to display the digit after the decimal point in Metric?

My guess is that they did this for the silly reason of there not being enough space on the display for an extra two characters since "AVG L/100km" takes up more room than "AVG MPG". They should have just left the AVG out for Pete's sake!

Hey, you know its funny you ask this question. because we have a had this debate at work, and the only thing we can agree on is that when in MPG for whatever reason it is giving more of instant fuel economy, because i am guessing calculating L/100KM is a more of fixed calculation. and it might be as easy as, that on the software side it is just easier to calculate MPG but i don't know for sure.

and i have looked through all the manuals and i can't find a for sure answer. so what i will do tomorrow if i have time i will send a request to Ford hotline and see if if they can give me a answer.

Deano - my five bucks says it is as simple as not having enough characters on the screen to deal with the decimal point and extra digit.

I'll bet the computer computes in one set of units and converts to the desired MPG or L/100km - so the accuracy is in there. It is probably a 32 bit processor and has more than enough precision to deal with many extra decimal places.

Great to have you on this board Deano!
