Question about factory sub?
Has anybody tried just replacing the stock amp and sub, but keeping the stock box. I would think that that would solve the problem of the bass level cutting out at higher volumes. Any thoughts?
I did read on one forum that some guy tried this but he had a problem with the sub wireing as it was a dual coil. You could get around that by upgradeing the amp but then you would need to upgrade the wireing from the batterey to the new amp. Plus the amp on the fatory sub is so small i think you would be lucky to find anything that would fit and give out as more power. Also the amp uses a 6v trigger so you will need to buy a 12v relay switch to get the voltage up higher and hack into the incoming 12v feed.
its not cutting out. The stereo lowers the volume when you turn the audio up to higher volumes to protect the speaker.
Simply replacing the sub and/or the box will not remedy this. You need to add something like this to keep the bass signal from being lowered at high levels:
