Step Bars or not

Going to make a deal (hopefully) on a white FX4 Monday or Tuesday.

The only thing I am not sure about is step bars.

I have aftermarket Westin's on my '08. I like the functionality as a step, but not real pleased with their appearance.

The FX4 does not have any right now. On the build site, they show a 5" oval chrome, and 4" oval stainless (no good photos of either).

I saw the 5" chrome on an XLT at the lot. They are very nice - I like the form of them, but wow - they are really chrome!

Being that the white FX4 has no chrome at all except for the stupid tail lights, I am thinking the chrome bars might not go well with the truck.

Any opinions?
Anyone with an Oxford White '09 with step bars that can post a photo?

This time, I am having everything right on the truck that I want before I sign the papers.

If you can get the dealer to add them, it's worth it. If you decide afterwards you don't like them you can always remove them. I'd be worried if I were in your shoes that I'd be kicking my own **** for not getting them. I have the 5" version and love them. But then again, I have Razor Red.

I too have the 5" chrome step bars on a royal red truck. Get your internet pricing on the step bars before you go to the dealer. Another option, more costly, is to get the power step bar from the Platinums. You can have your cake and eat it too.

Some guy up in Alberta, Canada bought a white FX4, posted a couple of pics and he had the chrome step bars. I'll pm you the link.

My daughter and wife mandated that I get them right away so I put DeeZee stainless ones on my truck and am happy with them. I might have liked the factory style a little better but these grew on me quickly and I'm happy with them. My truck is Bright Red and is an XLT so it had a chrome grill. I think that chrome or polished stainless and red look great together. Years ago I had a 99 and had black Westins on it. The were starting to get a little chipped up when I got rid of it (for a minivan ugh!) even though I believe they were powder coated. And here, chips mean rust. The same happened on a friends factory black bars. I think stainless will be better in that regard because I can re-polish the dings. And I added molded splash guards which will help protect them too.

yeah, strange they don't offer black step bars anymore, just on the XLT's according to the order guide. And on www.fordaccessories.com, they just have black tube steps for the regular and supercab only.

I had the factory 4" black platform bars on my 04 FX4, and after 4 years they were starting to rust. I got rid of them and bought some painted FX2 step bars from a fellow member last year.

if your FX4 truck is mono-tone white, then the chrome bars will look fine. IMO, I don't like the look of chrome bars with the lower dark grey FX4 two-tone.

Yeah Steve - it is monotone white.

I did find some photos (thanks big-ol-truck) of what I was looking for.

Going to go with the bars - getting old and need that step!

I'm also gettin forced to buy the step bars.. So I had to be a little different, I was lookin into N-fab but would look a little funny with my stock suspension. I found some from Rampage over on 4wheelonline there called slimline sturup steps. Anyone have these? The only fault I have, they don't make them in stainless.. But for $175 shipped I really can't go wrong.. I hope. I'll post some pics next weekend when there installed.

I just put a set of black Lund 5" nerf bars on my 2011 FX4...they are corrosion resistant and have a lifetime warranty. They look great and were easy to put on. I can shoot you a pic if you like.
