The fronts are just plain glass. If there is anything it is 2-3%.

By Federal law the factory must allow 70 percent of light to be transmitted through the front 3 windows i.e. driver, passenger and windsheild, and there is no law on what percent light needs to be transmitted on the rear of the truck from the factory given that there are side mirrors. Remember this is for trucks/Suv's not car's as they have different federal laws. The factory does not use a film based tint this is why the percent of tint is roughly in the range of 18-20 percent. In saying that, 20 percent film tint plus the already solar tinted driver and passenger windows will keep you in that range dropping into the 15 percent which is not even offered in my area would leave the fronts slightly darker which would not look good. Now here is my rule 5 percent on every window even the already tinted rear and 20 percent on the windsheild is the only way to roll.

I went the less than legal route, barely. I did 20% on the front and 35% over the back factory tint. Gives it a good look.

I am looking at doing my front windows at the legal limit 35%. What brands is everyone using to match the back two windows, or do almost all of them match? I have been reading about Huper Optik and Llumar. I was curious if the ceramic films were a different shade of color and would not match the back windows.

I don't think my truck had any factory tint on the side or back windows.... I just put Llumar 20% ATR all the way around it.

There are different types of llumar film... this .pdf explains more http://www.llumar.com/pdf/en/LLumarAutoSpecsUS.pdf

There is the cheaper ATC series of dyed film which is most common, the better ATR metalized high performance film offers greater solar energy rejection.. it keeps the temps down a little more and is less prone to fading as I understand it.

The dyed films can fade over time and go purple or blue, the metalized stuff isn't supposed to to it as quickly.

For the front windows, you'll need 24" wide film. The other windows only need 20", but because of the front windows, you'll need a 24" roll.

I bought a sealed roll on ebay which is 100 foot x 24" 20% ATR and I have a good bitl left over. I bought the roll to tint a few vehicles to save money, and it is hard to find someone who has a roll to sell it by the foot. Most installers want to be paid to install it.

Anyway, if anyone needs or wants the metalized ATR Llumar 20% film in 24" width, I have some to sell. I gave $350 for the roll, so $3.50 a foot is what I'd like, plus shipping. It can be shipped in a poster tube safely.

Pics of my truck with the factory glass...

With the 20% tint installed....

Would the charcoal or black tint match the factory rear windows?

Edit, I was looking at the Llumar tint website and they list a charocal and black colors.

I had 20% done on the front doors only and from the outside it appears to match very well. From the inside the factory rears are lighter and from what I'm told don't reflect the light or UV rays so maybe someday I'll have them done also. I had mine done, $95 with 3M film and its guaranteed for as long as I own the vehicle. I have done it myself in the past but it is a pain in the **** and with a brand new truck I wanted it done right and looking nice, so $95 was well worth it to me. Just my .02

The Llumar 20% on my truck is Charcoal but I'm not sure what would match the factory tint since my truck didn't have any tint from Ford.

I know the front glass looks untouched but it actually has a factory tint of 75% (meaning 75% of light can pass thru it). So when you go to a shop and ask for lets say 35% tint, you are adding that on top of the 75% so you will end up with around 28% to 32% on a tint meter.

The rears are 20%.

and D8Chumley, since you put 20% over stock front 75% it made it slightly darker, more like 15%. Thats why your fronts look a tad darker.

Thanks ruffn-it, didn't know that. But t I still at a quick glance think my back window is down due to the difference in color from inside. Like when you're pulling out at a stop sign and look right?

Bought my 99 F150 from Texas Direct,no problems until I had to have the truck inspected. The A-Holes would NOT pass the truck without having me removing the factory tint ! F-NJ

I bought my last truck from them, F250 King Ranch CC FX4 6.0 with 37's. It was also at least 20% but I know the guys where I get it inspected... How do you remove Factory Tint? Isn't the glass itself tinted?
