2009 F150 FX4 Winter Tires
So it seems that 265/70/17 as SteveVFX4 suggested seems to be the closest that a winter tire (Bridgestone Blizzak) is available in. The speedometer error is in the 1.5% range which I can more than live with.
As I expected, given the responses from some of those who are in colder climates like me, I'm unlikely to be too happy without a dedicated winter tire whose compound will stay soft in the low temperatures. The BFGs sound like good tires for me to switch to for the warmer months once the stock tires need replacement.
If anybody is aware of any other options for winters other than the Blizzaks I guess I'm going to be going with these next year. For now, thank goodness the winter seems to be over. We are having an early spring this year.

For winter tires, I have been pleased with Toyo Open Country G-02 Plus (these would be like the ones dainessmith was talking about). According to their website, http://toyotires.com/tire/pattern/ob...ntry-g-02-plus, the size you are looking for is available.
gpo - I'm in Ontario as well - just north of the GTA. The winter tires on my Honda van are Toyo's and Opencountry sounds familiar. I've been quite happy with them so if I can get them in the right size for the truck, that is what I will do as well.
Another issue to keep in mind is that availability and quantity can be limited if you wait too long to place an order for winter tires. When I last ordered the Toyo Open Country GS02's there were only 26 tires available in a warehouse in Vancouver for western Canada, and that was in October. I also understand that with the province of Quebec making winter tire use manditory supplies will likely continue to be tight for popular sizes.
