OK, so back to the original question. Where would we go to look for the Hack? Is this Forum or others like it the best place to find the answer?

You could try Syncmyride.com as thats a main forum for the people with sync. The problem is it's a very new system and at somepoint it will be hacked like any other software system. You will more than likely be able to do a lot more with the system when that happens. I have a felling that the system uses the gps to know when your moving and cuts the options off so that you cant use some settings whilst moving. If thats the case it's gonna be a bit longer until e see a hack for that. But what this come down to is your not ment to be messing with looking for places on your nav whilst driveing. The same goes for reading a map whilst driveing.

i personally don't see anyone being able to hack that feature because if i am not mistaken the system also looks at the range sensor which is controlled through the transmission control module.

I understand why they set it up this way though, as I am sure there are people out there who would actually watch a movie while driving.
For <$150 you can buy a portable DVD player that plugs into the power outlet in the rear of the console. Problem solved.

Seriously, you do NOT need the distraction of a movie playing whle you're driving.

I really don't understand how it is a distraction if you are not watching it? No more distracting than the navigation map up on the screen as far as I am concerned. Now mapping a destination and such while driving is definately not safe. But of course, just like everything in the world now, they have to dummy proof everything cause there are people out there who don't have the common sense to not do those things while driving. But I still don't see the distraction if the driver is not watching the movie.

Anyway, I found out last night, that the sound of teh DVD will still play while driving, so to me that is about as good. Makes it like someone telling a story and lets the kids use their imagination.

Now I am not trying to be an A hole, maybe it is just my old age, but what happens if you get into a serious accident and they know you have bypassed the system.

Granted those are all funny, but back to the original question: Is this forum and others like it, the place to look for an answer to this thread question, or is there a better solution?

I'm sure at some point someone here may be able to help with that mod. It's rather nebulous at this point for a lot of '09 related questions for a few reasons. First, not many people have '09's due to the economy, second the truck has been out a very short time so very few people have done many mods if any, and thirdly the mod you are trying to accomplish is one that for most people will never be an issue.

Don't get me wrong, look at my thread about the Upfitter Switch installation on a 2009. Some have helped me best they could, but no one besides myself has any interest in the mod I'd like to do so I'm pretty much on my own. It's just very early for the 2009's yet. But if you can't get anything from Google, then this forum or an automobile shop that does custom installs would be your best bets.

I've searched Google for weeks and weeks about the size of the Upfitter Switches for the '05-'07 and '08-'09 superduties, but absolutely nowhere lists the dimensions of those two pieces. Can you believe that? But I've received some of that info from fine folks on this forum and a little from some guys on ebay selling them. At any rate, good luck! Just remember, if you're the first one on here to complete your mod, you can share it with everyone else and be the hero.

^^^EXACTLY^^^
I'm not willing to let other dummies ruin it for me or others who are responsible. While going on a road trip, sometimes it's just nice to have a movie going. Am I constantly looking at the screen and watching? No. Does the front seat passenger maybe want to watch, yes. People want to jump in and criticize so quickly on this subject, thinking that you're just gonna stare at the screen and kill somebody. If this were the case, the whole unit shouldn't be allowed to show anything....radio station, climate control....why don't we go ahead and cover the instrument panel too, or mirrors. ALL of these things take your eyes from the road for brief moments.

Yes they do and thats the reason for less distractions. There's no reson at all to have a full motion picture, like a movie playing in the front of the car. For one Nav screens have a very slow action of movement for this exact reason. Showing a full frame rate movie with falshes and explosions or quick colour changes will make you take your eyes from the road and can distract you a lot more than a 1fps nav screen. If your familey really are in that much of a need to watch a movie then get the passenger one of them screens that are designed for this with the limited viewing angle. Mercedes are making a system where the driver and passenger watch the same screen but see different images. Basicly the driver can not see a movie whilst the car is in motion. People crash there cars and kill people from just pressing a radio channel button so a movie no matter how you look at it has to be worse.

Call the people at www.nav-tv.com - they have it working already. I've not seen it myself but have been told it works - about $500 though....

Andy is right, you want the Lockpick. I contacted them about the compatibility with the Sony Nav and Sync and they said they are working on it and will have a 100% complete solution in a month or so. I pre-ordered it and will post info here when I get mine installed.

Thanks for being the guinea pig on this one, hopefully it is an easy install. I will want to be able to pull it if any Nav issues show up that need looking at by the dealer.
