maybe they are getting the last laugh. how many guys buy 3/4 tons just because they want a diesel and if ford sold a 1/2 ton they would buy that, so if they only sell diesels in 3/4 tons and up, they would make more money. in theory. just an idea

The new diesel's have the power and torque, but the emissions are killing the trucks.. Thanks to the government... The mpg's are not there just yet, heres hoping in the future though...

Well, I've said it before, and I'll say it again... Everyone gets in line behind me for a diesel F-150! Gineau pig, schmineau pig... I don't care. I ran diesel F-250's exclusively for about seven to eight years. I had high hopes with this 2008 F-150 I currently have, and even tweaked, I am less than impressed with it's towing capabilities JUST because I come from a long diesel history. I haul 7,000# of travel trailer, and between the weight and the frontal area (drag), a diesel would be fantastic.

The big deal now is payload. Ford killed the F-150's payload again for 2009. This year, I again, may be looking at another Superduty just because of payoad. At 1,500# payload, my tongue weight, topper, four people, etc put me over by a couple hundred pounds. With the only real gas engine in a Superduty being the V-10 gas hog (of course it's not much worse than the 5.4L), the only option would be the forevercoming F-150 diesel. Then, I'm waiting to see how much the payload will be cut again with the heavier diesel mill sitting in the frame. We'll probably be lucky to see 1,200# payloads with the diesel. Remember, the payload and towing differences will still need to be more than slight between the F-150 and the Superduty to make both lines fit different niches. If they are close, well, then, why have two lines? Hmmmm. Could Ford be thinking about going to one truck bodystyle again?

GM killed theirs. Ford has basically done the same.

I think thats why we'll see the 6.2. They need a workhorse w/o the diesel coming.

i think another factor is that when oil was at its highest and gas prices were at their highest diesel was just as expensive. plus owning a diesel only appeals to a certain market a lot of average truck owners would never buy one because of the preconceptions they have about owning a diesel. when Ford launches the Festiva it will come out in north America with a gas engine even though they have deisel version that gets 50mpg in Europe but they don't believe they will have a big enough market for it in north America. Just ask dodge about how well that diesel sold they came out with for their suv's.

if they came out with a diesel, i would buy one. if not i have no reason to replace my 05. i can see driving that for another 5 years. plus ford closing down the good dealers and leaving the ones with lousy service depts open does not help

Ford doesn't close dealers, i don't think Ford can just close a dealer under their licensing agreement unless there is fraud, or serious lack of payment for stock purchased by the dealer, if a dealer closes it mostly likely do to failed business practices like any failed business.

i dont think we should hold our breath waitin on one. i think they are to busy just trying to stay in business. they put the work and money into stuff like the flex and wonder why sales are down. in 6 months i have seen 3 of them on the road. there are a load of them at the dealers lot.
