Drive from Vermont to Texas

I just drove the new F150 SCrewLariat 4X4 from Vermont to Austin Texas with no problems. My wife, our three dogs and I traveled comfortably for 2000 miles. We had our gear in the back under an extang full-tilt tonneau that the dealer had installed. The liner is Armorthane. We went from sub-zero icy weather to a quite balmy 70 degree destination. Sad to say I didn't see any other 09's on the road. What a truck. Super smooth.

Mileage

I just took readings from the info function. It was pretty consistent at 17.8 mpg. I would reset it every time I filled up. I have a 36 gallon tank and that has been a great feature for a long drive. It did well in an ice storm that we encountered on the way in Virginia. Captains chairs were super comfy.

Great looking truck!....except for the mud-flaps and chromed tail lights

I'm pretty sure Vermont has mandates for mud-flaps on trucks? Hope you and your wifes stay here in Texas was good. I'm starting to see quite a few '09s out on the road now....but I don't think it will be like '04 when EVERYONE was getting the new Ford (economy related).

Nice truck but goodness, I don't know if I could do a 2000 mile trip with 3 dogs in that truck. I did 950 miles/16.5 hrs in the crewcab w/ 2 dogs (87 lbs and 60 lbs) and they were going nuts at the end of the trip. Nice rig. 17.8 does sound good.

Three dogs

I had them on a thick sheepskin in the back with the seats folded up. The flat floor was a godsend. 60 lb Catahoula, 30 lb Boston Terrier and a 20 lb Jack Russell. They all slept all the way through. Also had room for a couple of bags.

Nice truck.

The second pic looks like it should be in a sales brochure or print ad.

I have not seen many 09 F-150's on the road unlike the past two generations 97 and 04. Definiteley the economy.

What rear end do you have and what speeds were you traveling on the interstate?

What engine and rear end do you have?

I just did a 500 mile trip last weekend with 5.4L and 3.73LS and the best I got was 16.2. Avg highway more like 15. Around town I get 13.4.

BTW, that 500 mile trip was with 5 adults and it was very comfortable. My son is 6'2" and could cross his legs in the back seat. https://www.f150online.com/forums/im...lies/smile.gif

That's good to hear those MPG numbers. I've got a similar setup - 5.4L w/ 3.55LS but I'm in a supercab. Hopefully the lighter weight will help me get 18... though I'm still in break-in so I'm not expecting too much. Nice truck!

VT truck

Everything is stock except the tonneau cover. Here is another pic.
I washed it as soon as I arrived and the light at the time was perfect.
