Just got back from the NY Auto Show....
Here are my thoughts on how it looks in person.
I just got back from the NY auto show. It is just like Dearborn Derek said it was...if you like the current one, you will like the new one. I was able to sit in the Lariat....it looks great in person inside and out. Comparing the new F-150 interior to the new Super Duty interior, the F-150 wins by a mile. It looks a lot nicer and has a better quality feel to it.
They had the new Platinum with the black and chocolate interior on the rotating display - it looks really nice from what I could see. It is definitely the height of quality. The brushed aluminum Platinum grille is the best grille I've ever seen on an F-150. The internet pictures don't do it any justice whatsoever. I love the new side step. I was able to try the step out and it works great. I'm definitely going to get that. The Sony stereo with navigation looks sharp. Once you see it in person, it doesn't look like it has too many buttons at all. It's just right. The new dash and console looks the nicest out of all the makers from Dodge to Chevy and they added some new compartments inside the console. The new front end from the taller cab to the new hood to the new lights to the grille is a vast improvement over the current model which is feeling a bit dated. The new tailights look sharp. Online they look a bit importish, but in person they are just what the new truck needed.
The rear seats in the larger crew cab are really roomy and I love how they smoothly fold up and sink in towards the bed. They improved on that from the current model. And there is a little storage compartment under the rear seats built into the floor. The seats themselves feel a lot more comfortable. The new F-150 badges - it looks like they fixed the issue with the black paint. The new badges look like they are powder coated as there is a rough texture to it. The new tailgate looks cool. I noticed the new Dodge has a built in fishtail at the top as well. But the Ford has a ripple effect and it sets it off nicely.
Ford had a nice display with the Platinum, the XLT, and the Lariat which you could climb up on and get in on the driver's side. It looked great inside...much, much nicer than the pics online. There were a ton of people looking at the new F-150, asking questions and checking it out. I went over to see the new Dodge pickup and there was nobody looking at it. Not one person which was weird. It had a basketball and a golf bag in the side panels. Overall it looked good for a Dodge, but I think the new Ford looks much better. The new Ford Flex was also very cool. I was able to sit in one. Ford is definitely stepping it up in the quality department.
Overall I am really impressed and I will definitely be buying the new F-150 in 2010. I was thinking about going with the new Super Duty, but after sitting in each and comparing the two, I like the feel of the new F-150 a lot more and with new 6 speed and engines coming it is going to be the only choice.
If you're in the NY area, check it out. The show runs for its final two days - this Saturday and Sunday.

Me too...
Hey Rambo, good review of the show. I'm adding some pics I took. The cut away Lariat was the best, plus the fact as you mentioned - i sat in it and used the Sync screen!
Platinum

XLT

Lariat (Laser Cutaway)
