#4 the 4.4l diesel of course!

In fact, that may be the only way I would trade in my Chevy 5.3l in 2009.

#4 because all the cool kids are doing it! Seriously, I'd pick the diesel for one main reason-all the power, twice the mileage.

I think it is absolutely essential for FORD to pick BOTH the 4.4/4.5 diesel AND the 6.2 (or a comparable large displacement gasser).

Ford IS the leader in the full-size truck market, and they simply can't afford to bring a new product into the market that is already that severely out-gunned.

If Ford brings both a well-built diesel, and a true high-output large displacement V8 I just simply can't see another manufacturer even being capable of attempting supremacy over Ford. It's already clear they design the best truck overall, they just need to re-work the power train department now that others have since their last re-design.

6.2+

While we're on the subject, is the current Ram still using the same engine as in this commercial?

I choose the diesel, #4.

I want the added fuel economy, plus the superior towing ability for my travel trailer. I should get near the same towing as I do empty now. The current rumor is > 500 lb ft of torque from the diesel...that's what the '99 Super Duty had!

4.4L if within $1,200, otherwise 6.2L. And I agree Ford needs both to be competitive. GM jsut announced their 4.5L diesel and have stated the curretn 6/0L will be replaced with the 6.2L (Denali/Escalade) adn a 6 speed within next 1-2 years... We need 6.2L w/min 390hp to be in game... AND the diesel...

well depends on what you are trying to do with it. If they can put a 6spd auto behind the 6.2 that would be super sick fast!

for daily driving prolly 4.4 or 4.6

for towing etc 5.4 or 6.2 or 4.4 or 4.6

From today on Edmunds Inside Line...

"The current 5.4-liter Triton V8 is getting replaced by Ford's new "Boss" engines that are expected to displace around 6.2 liters at the top end and around 5.4 to 5.6 liters on the low end. Expect horsepower numbers approaching 400 and similar levels of torque, as Ford wants to stay on top of Toyota's 5.7-liter V8. It delivers 381 hp and 401 pound-feet of torque through a six-speed automatic, so expect six gears in the Ford's automatic transmission as well."
