A Diesel?

yes there has also been rumor that Ford wants to put a diesel into the new F-150 as an option. It is rumored to be a 4.4L engine out of the Land Rover division in Britain, i do not know a whole lot about it but it is rumored to make:

4.4L diesel
around 350 HP
around 500 TQ

but this^^ seems quite extreme but would be one hell of a towing machine

300HP
475TQ sounds closer to reality.

I don't know...I doubt it...here's why.

If Ford put a V8 in a Ranger it will compete with the F150...
If Ford put a diesel in a F150 it will compete with the F250...

--

Although lately, Ford seems willing to do just about anything to sell more F150's...I got a sick deal, sick cashback, and sick financing...When I said I was interested in a automatic Ranger, he went right to the F150 lol...and I was game for that...

If Ford puts a diesel in and makes it a 4k option, then they win...they'll sell less F250's, but the F150 will be just about guaranteed to sell a ton of -- and that will allow Ford to keep calling the F150 the best-selling pickup truck for the past 30-whatever years...They use that as a selling point quite often...rightfully so...So I suppose it is possible to see a diesel in an F150...well, a lot more possible to see the diesel in the F150 than the V8 in the Ranger...even though the Exploders and the Sport Trac's have the V8's...Since we're on the subject, I wouldn't mind seeing the Ranger and the Sport Trac merge into one...that's a possibility...sort of like a re-designed Sport Trac that would carry the Ranger name...

lol...now I'm getting way too far ahead of myself. I've thought about this too much.

well i heard it might be 7k option which would not float well for me, but the F-250 will still be better because it has a stronger and beefier frame and can tow more and hold more payload

as you said i wish that the sport trac name would die and they can merge designs into like a Ranger supercrew
also make the bed on it beefier and stronger frame but then you would have a mini F-150

oh and by the way i like the color of your truck deapee

Ford makes a supercrew ranger. They just dont sell it here in the states. Why? I have no idea. One would think it would be a great buy

ya australia has one because they have no F-150

but they also have a diesel in it, 3.0L turbo diesel
but they probably do not have it here because it looks like the little nissan pickup

but thread drift, we should start another thread for the ranger

As long as diesel is 30-40 cents more per gallon, I doubt if there will be a great rush to buy them.

I would almost bet money there will be a rush. And, they will all be in line AFTER me! I really could use the strength and longevity of a diesel for the miles I put on, but unless they increase the payload of these "grocery getting F-150's" they will almost be useless. Obviously, the mileage benefit (which I assume will be the real advantage in an F-150 smoker) is what we would like. The ability to haul a beefy trailer (although 10,000 pounds behind an F-150 is stupid in my book) without getting 8 miles per gallon will certainly the ticket, too. Bring it on. I'm waiting.

I was at Ford less than two weeks ago visiting the Research and Innovation Center. The engineers there told me that they are scheduled to have the diesel option in 2009 for the 2010 model year. They even showed me the engine which is a variant of the Land Rover engine meaning it has a different bore and stroke, turbos setup, etc. The engineer I spoke with told me that they currently have the engine running in 9 F150s for testing. Apparently the engine uses sequential turbos and have not experienced any major problems in the relatively short period of time they have been running the engine. It sounds like they have a fortune dumped into the emissions system to meet 2010 emissions standards. They still face issues related to exhaust after-treatment that need to be sorted out.
