Ford Cancels 4.5L V-6 Diesel???
#5
Well, I guess that means I'll be changing my handle to F250Sven within the next year. I've been waiting for the new baby diesel because I don't really need the 3/4 ton truck for a daily driver but would like the added benifit of better fuel mileage/cheaper fuel and the towing advantages of a turbo-diesel. Maybe this is part of the reason they're thinking of axing it. The V6 would cut into the V8's market share.
The reporters reason's are kind of lame. Emissions can be met with bioblended fuels. 250HP & 500ft-lbs is the last numbers I heard in the power department. That's better than the original Powerstroke's numbers. Cost and appeal go hand in hand. 6% of 700,000 trucks is still a lot of trucks and even if they only made $100-200 per engine thats a few million extra dollars.
pa_wolf62,
I've heard rumors that it may be put off until '06 when the new fuel regs go into effect so it might as well be cancelled. It'll be time for a redesign by then.
