Has anyone heard about new power ratings, or in other words, if we will beat the Chevys??

Powerplants

Rumor is that a diesel is an option in 2004 unless it gets slipped.

That's cool! I'd buy one if I weren't already planning to buy a 2004 F-350 diesel (half ton is too small to pull what I'm pullin').

That's gonna kick some Chevy butt... imagine pulling your load with an engine that is diesel tough!

I heard that the 5.4 may get some extra power.

If and when Ford puts a V-6 diesel in the F-150 then GM will be putting a V-6 Duramax in the 1500 Silverado as well.

Ford will be offering a 3 valve 5.4 that I believe will be around 300-305 hp...not sure of torque.

Thumbs up

The 3 valve is in production now, but all of it is going to Austrialia.
Horsepower should be around 300-310. The engine is designed to maximize torque in the 1800- 4000 rpm range. To get a big horsepower number one would have to have peak torque at over
4000 rpm. Not a good towing setup, unless you like towing at better than 4000 rpm! What I like is the reported fuel mileage, a big improvement over the current 5.4L.

Here are the facts:

5.4L 3V will feature VCT, dual spark plugs, IAFM, ETC with torque based shift, electronic returnless fuel system. 305-325hp, 365-385ft-lbs. torque. It will be mated to a 4R75W when used in the Expedition and to a 4R75W or a 5R100W when used in an F150.

I have also read that the 4.6, 6.8 and 4.2 will all go to 3 valve design.

I speculate that the 4.2 will be here for a long time as it will be the new standard engine on the Mercury Windstar variant. Obviously it would make sense to have a high volume engine available for the new minivan.
