Look at the top front of either valve cover, if there is a grommet with the cam phaser solenoid in it, it's a 5.4 3v. Unless the engine has been swapped, the 8th digit in the VIN will confirm, it will be 5 if it's a 5.4 3 valve. If it's a 4.6, it will be a W or 8.

there's usually a cover over the throttle body, it has the displacement on it, do I have that right? Displacement = 5.4L

The intake air tube and cone style air filter were on the 4.6.

The 5.4 had an air box with a rectangular air filter.

No reason for anyone to install a 5.4 engine, then modify it to use 4.6 parts.

If that's a Heritage 1997-2003 style (not the new 2004-2008 body style) it might be a 5.4 2 valve, that VIN is L.

nah that's definitely an 11th generation. the layout of the computer and everything else under that hood is 100% identical in every way to mine.

plus, didn't all 10th gens still use cable-operated throttle bodies?

edit, just researched: yes, all 10th gens (including the 2004 heritage) used cable-operated throttle bodies.
