running ruff
running ruff
Knock, Knock.. .anybody here with a head full of ideas? or better yet, anybody with the perfect idea?
i have a 2007 F150 with the 5.4L triton 3 valve gas engine.
in the past i have had trouble with the VVT's and replaced them. . .. a few weeks ago, i changed my oil.
i live in SoCal so i went with a heavier that stock oil. i added some STP and some Rislone too because it has 146000 miles on it.
the next day, after just a few miles it started running real ruff. lots of vibrations all across the RPM range. lots of misfire codes on multiple cylinders, all on the right/curbside bank of the engine.
i changed the cam position sensors. . .that was great for about an hour.
i changed both of the VVT's/ / /got me another hour.
changed the oil back to Ford specs with no additives. . .a good 15 min that time.
changed the VVT's again thinking some STP had gummed them up. . 30 min. . .
still getting misfire codes but settled on #3 cylinder. . .changed the spark plugs and coil packs. . .still a problem on number 3....changed all the fuel injector nozzles, , ,stiil #3 is not happy. . .
swapped the coil pack on #3 with #1... .. still runns ruff at idle, but so far, even after a run a few miles on the freeway. . .no codes.
i am at a loss what to hit next.
acceleration is smooth, but weeak. there is a healthy hesitation if i mash the gas to the floor.
i saw a guy on utoob talking about a cam follower that pops out of place so that cylinder becomes a 2 valve item and the resulting lack of fuel shows as a misfire. but he repeatedly stated it only happens on #7.
somebody slap me... ?
my brain is stuck..

since it seem like this was the source/start of your problems, and switching back oil hasn’t resolved it: I’d try doing a flush and then changing oil and filter again.
i am in West Covina, CA. in the San Gabriel Valley.
not havingany luck finding a shop thatis familiar with the thrown follower condition. anybody know a shop fairly close to my area with experience on this problem?
thx
