Why is my 2007 KR such a dog?

I just bought a low mileage (107k) 2007 King Ranch Crew Cab. Great shape, very few issues. 4X4, 5.4L. I like it, but my mileage is average, and when I stomp on it, it has very little acceleration. I know its meant to tow, max torque and all, but I think it should have a little more pep. What should I do? I will check the fuel filter, but beyond that, I am open to suggestion.

Get a muffler shop to check for clogged cats.

I put 105k miles on a new 2000 F150 supercab 4x4 5.4L 2v and sold it in 2005. Later I test drove a one year old 2005 Short bed F150 4x4 with the 5.4L 3V engine and it felt like it had less power than my 2000. I test drove a new 2006 Supercab F150 4x4 with the 5.4L 3V engine and it felt much slower than my 2000. So, it appeared to me that in normal driving they are slower. They are 500lbs or so heavier.

When I got my 2002 that I currently drive, it was down on power. I serviced it front to rear when I bought it and I discovered the dirtiest air filter I've ever seen. A new filter brought back some power but it still wasn't as powerful as my 2000. Then I bought a Superchips programmer and that really perked up the power to more than my 2000. I suspect the 2002 was detuned slightly due to increasing emissions standards.

At 107k, have the plugs ever been changed? Does it run smoothly or somewhat rough? Perhaps check plugs and coils as well as coil connectors to see if any are loose?

I'm betting that the plugs are still original. Changing them on that engine is not easy or cheap, they like to break off in the head.
