Pleased with MPGs this weekend.

So Friday morning, I had two fillings to get done. When the dentist's assistant came in to give me the shot for numbing, I told her that was the part I dreaded most, and then for two days worrying about finding out the meet I had was my cheak. She said the shot was optional, I never considered the oprtion. Dentist said wasn't gonna hurt him, so I tried it, was a few tingles, but all in all not the worst pain. When he was finished, it was "done" too. We did stop at "Buffalo and More" in Riner there on Rt 8, eat some super good Buffalo Brisket, glad I did not opt for the numbing.

So we left there and drove to spend the weekend with Wife's brother and his wife down in Indian Valley in far western Floyd County. We get there, I park, and the truck sat until this morning when we come home. From fill up after leaving the dentist untill I got back up here today was a drive of 234 miles. I had decided since no rush, I was careful to make mild throttle adjustments, drove on Interrstarte highway keeping my speed between 60 and 65 just to get around Roanoke / Salem. Between Roanoke / Salem and Christiansburg, I used older Rt 460. The rest of those miles were all on 55mph roadways. I kept one eye on the instant MPG readout on my Scan Gauge II. I know it's not exact from past drives, but it has always been within a half MPG anyway ... and really the instant MPG is used like a vacuum gauge. I maintained a steady foot and even let my speed fall to just under 50 at times on grades, of which there were a lot.

At 234 miles I gassed up at the same station, even same gas pump as used on Friday. I filled it as I always do, not packing it. It took 10.9 gallons to fill up again. The gas station is BP, I use 87 octane. The station is near my home, it's at about 1,670 feet altitude. My BIL's home is at 2,455 according to my Garmin. I climbed roughly 800 feet going down Friday and dropped the same footage coming home today. Scan Gauge II said 19.6 MPG Average because it started over at the Lowe's / B-K stop. My math says 21.467 miles per gallon. I did mess up coming home, I went by Lowe's and bought three 16' boads, then Burger King for a sammich. I still couldn't compare to the SGII as it had reset at my meal stop, and when I parked at my BIL's house.

Those 3.55s did OK.

So, that variable cam timing does help with the mpgs.

So now we know, if you don't take the Novocain or numbing shot at the dentist, your F150 mileage will increase.

Good to know!

BTW, great mileage!

Not so much that ... but it was how the weekend started and it sure added to my enjoyment as I enjoyed that buffalo brisket just a couple hours later.
