V6 and V8 exhaust compatibility.

Hey guys,

I have a 2007 STX regular cab, short bed with the 4.2L Essex and a 5 gear. I have been browsing catback exhaust options and there literally isn't any for the 4.2L, but plenty for the 4.6s in RCSB configuration. Is the exhaust routing between the two engines the same? I couldn't find much comparing the two other than they're both 2 1/2 inches. I am specifically looking at the Magnaflow 16523 catback system with the twin tips exiting at the stock location(which I love) and the fact that its a pretty mild sounding system from what I have read.

Thanks!

I believe it's the same. If I go to rockauto.com and look up exhaust kits, the only different parts are the cats themselves, everything behind them is the same.

Yes, what I call the "suitcase" muffler and piping is all the same across all platforms in this M/Y.

Not exactly, it's wheelbase dependent.

If same from cat back, might look at 2004-2008 Ford F-150 V8 Cat Back Exhaust Kit – Legato Performance

All stainless. Front pipe is reduced to fit at Y, has choice of rear vs rear side. Just something to look at. The front pipe has an extension if needed, or can be cut, instructions were provided.
