New owner of a 2008 F150 Triton 5.4L

HI there everyone,

I just purchased a 08 F150 XLT with 296,000, It has a couple things I want to fix. I need to replace the heater core as right now its bypassed, AC is ice cold. also there seems to be after the truck warms up at a stop light or slow acceleration there is a very rough idle which becomes a shake, once I put in neutral and tap the gas goes away. I am being told possibly VCT.
The previous owner 6 months ago had the updated spark plugs added, and new coil packs, but he said he had the truck since 100,000 miles and been a great truck. just did not have time to fix what else he thought it could be. Possibly timing cam kit he suggested. Either I really like this truck, never had a 4x4 truck and the best part she is paid for.

any thoughts on what I should do far as engine tune ups and changes to be save mechanically wise? I am changing the oil tomorrow first thing with the MC oil filter and Mobile1 full synthetic high miles 5w-30 with 6 quarts and 1 quart of lucas oil.

looking forward to learning thanks

It likely has low oil pressure at idle. Try some 10w40 or replace the pump with a high volume Melling oil pump.

If you are going to tear it down to replace the oil pump, do a full timing job.
