New TPMS Sensors Error

So, I just got new wheels & tires installed. Since my original TPMS sensors/sensor batteries were 12 years old, I got new ones. The tire shop trained them to my truck and all was good for 25 miles. Now I get the error - TPMS light flashes for approx. 1 minute then stays on.

The shop tried re-training the sensors with them still installed and it didn't work - All sensors were reading pressure, just not communicating with the truck, They said they'd now have to take the sensors out to re-train them. Does this make sense?

My other question - I kept 1 old tire/wheel setup with the OEM TPMS sensor still on it for a full size spare. Would keeping this in the bed of my truck have caused this (i.e. duplicate sensor code)? Or is that irrelevant? If it matters, the old sensors were OEM and the new ones are Autel MX-Sensors.
