Last Friday night, after getting off of work and going to head to my gf’s house to salvage what was left of Valentine’s Day, my truck met its demise. I turned left into the local gas station from a turn lane, across two lanes of traffic and with 3/4 of my truck in the parking lot, a lady in a late 90s Civic or Accord slammed into me from the rear wheel back to the rear bumper. I never saw her, nor did I hear her even attempt to stop. Upon first inspection, the damage to my truck looked minimal compared to her smashed up ride, but once I limped her to the shop the following Monday, and the eyeball estimate was $3,000 I knew I was in trouble.
The total that SF was quoted ended up being $3,700, while the truck was valued at $4700 (minus the $500 deductible) totaling $4,272.33. So yes, more than 75% of the truck’s value.
I bought this truck brand new in June 2008 with .8 of a mile on the clock and at TOD, she had 364,071.3 miles on her, still with the original engine and transmission intact. Gotta love that sturdy 4.6.....she was a beast after the Gotts Mod, exhaust and a K&N air filter.
Anyway, I’m just killing time at work while hanging with a patient at a local hospital so I thought I’d post about the death of my long-suffering baby. There’s a silver lining to this, though.....
I’m now the proud owner of a brand new 2019 STX 2WD SuperCrew with the 2.7 EcoBoost. And yes, it’s grey. So my username still sticks, even though my Grey Ghost did not make it to 400,000 like I’d hoped lol. And the only true (that I’m aware of) completed Flow Through Floor Shift STX in the 04-08 body style is now dead. But the spirit of the old truck is with the new, as this truck was also assembled at the Dearborn plant, making her a true Michigan Ford

Reason: Adding additional pics
Well, on a positive note, it appears no one was injured and it seems that you got your money's worth out of your old truck. Hope the new one gives you the same good service!

You will not hear sliding tires as often now that anti lock brakes are so common.

X2!
'08? Sad … someone will buy what's left and patch it and run the wheels off or part it out. Bet it bent the axle too.
I know … It is upsetting.
Any tickets?

As far as I know Tbear, Mississippi is a comparative fault state, which means that both parties are liable to be found at fault (20/80, 50/50 etc), so no ticket was issued on the scene to me, not to the lady either, as far as I know. I may sound ignorant and please forgive me if I do, but were Anti-lock brakes standard on a 98-00 timeframe Civic or Accord? That is about the time I started driving and I know next to nothing about those models and their safety features (or lack thereof).
And I totally agree with you guys that the safety of myself and the other driver was paramount to the damage inflicted upon any vehicle. I haven’t spoken to her, but she left the scene in her own car so no hospital visits or possible “ow, my neck hurts” lawsuits on the horizon, that I’m currently aware of.
It is times like these that I truly wish my father had been more mechanically inclined and had the wherewithal to teach me how to rebuild my trucks from scratch. I’m sure the ol girl was fixable and at a much better price, had I been able to do at least 25% of the repairs myself. But as it stood, I needed the maximum amount of payout so that it would give me the max down payment on another ride. I’m extremely happy with my new truck (since dubbed Phantom) and glad to have something with a warranty again, but I will always miss my Ghost.

I wonder why the police even show up then? Lady was not to blame, had the right of way, yet she still got ripped.
