Ahh yes! My mom used to have one when she did real estate back in the 90s. Heck, her plan was 60 minutes, and roaming was like $5.95 a minute. Cell coverage was garbage too. You had to be sure you were conservative using it. Going over yielded some nasty charges.
My neighbor who ran a television studio had a 1991 Audi A8 that had a car phone... I remember being inside of it too many times, when you start it up, you here the phone unit go, bbbeeeerrrrppp, like a classic sci-fi movie gizmo.

Look very carefully at that "pack phone". The handset is actually attached to the base unit & battery, with a coiled handset cord. I remember lugging one of those around before the Motorola brick phone hit the market. A friend of mine had a phone that was configured to be carried in a briefcase.

Back to the ScanGauge II.
Where is the transmission temp coming from? Is that the temp of the fluid before it goes to the cooler? Or the temp of the fluid returning from the cooling lines? Is that temp inside the transmission, or in the pan at the bottom? Where is this temperature sensor?

It's inside the transmission:

The transmission temperature sensor is integrated into the internal plastic molded lead frame harness.
