scangauge 2 owners

Just recently purchased a Scangauge 2 unit mainly to monitor the engine temp since my temp needle on the gauge cluster is pegged to the hot side. So for a piece of mind I purchased this unit not to only monitor temp but also other features as well. Would like to know what you guys are monitoring as your top 4 on the main display during driving (i.e. MPH, AVG, fWT, LOD, etc). Also, I've read on here that this unit is capable of tracking transmission temps but I don't see such setting. Is that something the OBD-2 can read as well?

I have mine set to RPM, MAP, IAT, CHT.

Here's mine showing some impressive MPG when I had my old Hankooks:

In order to display transmission fluid temperature, you have to add that as an X-gauge if it's not already enabled. Refer to the manual, here's the specific info you need for the process:

Thanks for the info! This is what I was looking for, Transmission Fluid Temp. So does our gen trucks (11gen) support PWM or CANSF?

Was going to try the suggestion they have in the manual to find out....

Could be either, from my link:

You can find out what protocol your vehicle is running with the ScanGauge by pressing MORE > MORE > MODE.

I completely forgot about that. Now that you mention it, there was a little bit of work to set up the ScanGauge initially. At the time, it was one of the neatest toys. I imagine most, if not all, of what the ScanGauge does is on an app now, and you can simply use your phone.

I have a BAFX ODBII bluetooth reader that just plugs into the port that cost only $22. Had to also get the Torque Pro phone app which cost $5 or something like that, but I think they only work on Android phones, so if you have an iPhone, I don't think it'll work?

It works with ANY vehicle from 1996 and newer. Used it on the Wifes 2003 RAV 4 to check the engine code it had, but it read a lot of other temp sensors and other things by just plugging it in.

You can set it up to show as many or as few gauges as you desire. Does all those 0-60 mph/1/8 mile/14/mile speed things, scans for engine codes, clears the codes, checks to see if all your emission sensors have completed..

For my Eco, it even tells me my boost, upper intake temps, CAT temps, actual volts and about a hundred other sensors that you will ever want.

Anyway, I'm sorry this is no help for your Scan Gauge.. But, I really like the setup I have..

Good luck!

Mitch

No worries, @MitchF150 Appreciate the helpful advice. Good to know that there is a phone app option. Everything these days somehow involves our smartphone device, which is scary .

A couple of years ago, I bought another car. I didn't want to spend another $150 on a ScanGauge. I found an OBDII Bluetooth device on Amazon for $5. Downloaded a few free apps. Works great. I use it with a tablet. Big gauges. I heard that Ford has something called FORScan.

I just use the free version of Torque, and deleted the other apps which I didn't like as much. Unlike your wife, I'm not doing quarter mile drag races. The most important thing for me was to read DTCs.

FORScan is not from Ford, it's an independent project.

https://forscan.org/home.html

FORScan is a software scanner for Ford, Mazda, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles, designed to work over ELM327 and J2534 Pass-Thru compatible adapters

My2001 Merc Grand Marquis and my 2007 FX4 both report trans temps, but use different X gage coding, so I have two set X gages set up and cycle through to find what I want.

I most often leave at least MPG and Avg MPG displayed, others vary with vehicle I'm in. I also have a SubaruForester and a 1995 Thunderbird and 2008 Mustang, each has a cord in place, Velcro to mount. Mine is programed as it was before we had Mustang, Must has 5 spd so I saw no reason to change, it reports pretty much all as '07 FX4

For my '95 Bird, '01 Merc, '07 F150 from master list .......

Got several across the "fleet". All are set to monitor the rpms, the engine core temp, instant fuel mileage, and most importantly for my F150, the system voltage. My f150 does not have anything for the battery other than a light. I have mine setup to also monitor open or close loop. FWIW, the 2014 F150 seems to be more of a time thing with open/closed loop as it goes to closed loop after 1 minute regardless of engine temp.

I like the SG because it doesn't rely on apps and it is basic and reliable. It also looks professional.

Don't forget that a dozen or so years ago, ScanGauge II was the only option unless you wanted to drive with a laptop plugged into your OBD II port, or install a dash mounted programmer. There were no "apps" or "smart phones" to run the application. Remember the "candy bar" phone & "flip" phone? I was still carrying a huge Nextel radio.
