Engine replacement
My '05 regular cab FX-4 has 141,018 miles on the clock, the only problem currently is the cam phaser tick.
My question is, when the 5.4 finally gives up the ghost to the point it can't be repaired inexpensively and buying a new truck is prohibitively expensive (base model, two wheel drive XL F-150 is $27,705).
Am I required to replace the 5.4 with the same or could I install a 5.0 or a diesel*?
*Of course, if I go with one of these, the engine swap would be well after emissions are required.
