gas pedal not accelerating
gas pedal not accelerating
ok so I was driving to work going about 70 when I looked down at my speed odometer and seen my speed was decreasing so I hit the gas pedal and nothing would not accelerate but almost seemed to slow down more. so I pulled over on the freeway and when I came to a stop the check gauges light came on. I turned to truck off then tried to restart it and would not turn over. I waited 5 mins and tried again and it started and I put it in drive and it went 5 yards then stopped again any suggestions on whats going on here.
A bad battery wouldn't cause an engine to turn off considering the engine runs off of the alternator after it starts. The battery only comes into play during the starting of the engine. Since you didn't bother to say what year or what engine, this will be broad based. The early 4.6 engines of 2004 and after had issues with the throttle body motor. What you are experiencing is typical of a bad throttle body motor. The entire throttle body must be replaced....IF that's the problem. You can also have a bad throttle position sensor. Usually, but not always, the engine at worse will go back to the default idle speed. Sometimes it will just shut down. But since a bad TPS doesn't always send signal to the ECM to setup the engine to run, it's like having no throttle at all....and then sometimes it will work intermittently. You should have set a code. I'd suggest getting an inexpensive code reader if you intend to ever work on anything relating to a modern engine. All car makers are using the data recording system now. Do not assume if you don't have a CEL that there are no codes stored.
