Starter issue 2005 fx4

Hi, I am having an issue with my starter engaging while driving. The truck starts fine but when i start driving about 30 secs down the road the starter will attempt to engage again then just winds down. Normally lasting 10 seconds or so. It only does it once per time driving it and it's only after I have been moving. I could let it sit in idle for 10 minutes after I turn it on and it wont try to engage but literally as soon as i go down the road a bit it will engage again briefly and won't do it again until i turn the truck off and go down the road on my next trip. I replaced the starter and solenoid on the starter but it unfortunately didn't fix it. Completely at a loss here. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Need new starter. Mine did this until it engaged and burned up. I would replace sooner rather than later, so it doesnt leave you stranded. Its only three bolts but the top bolt is a BITCH!

Unfortunately I changed the starter and it still keeps doing it...and yes I about gave up trying to get the last bolt off!!!

Has to be something related to the wiring to the starter. Check to make sure none of the wire insulation isnt melted touching something it isnt supposed to be touching

You might want to check relays too.

How about expanding your thinking?
You know the ignition switch has to be turned to the crank position to supply the start solenoid on the fire wall.
This circuit goes through the Neutral and Park positions of the shift position switch on the side of the transmission, then up to the start solenoid.
Obviously with the ignition on while running, battery could still supplied to this circuit.
If a short occurs putting battery on the start solenoid the starter will be energized.
You have to consider the whole operating circuit and not just at the starter.
Power gets to the starter through the firewall solenoid in order to even get it's power.
If the start solenoid had been previously worked on, is the wiring back on in the proper terminals?
Does the ignition switch feel like it has an issue returning to the Run position etc.
Learn about what your working on first instead of guessing and doing a lot of work and expense for nothing.
Be a where that a starter motor is not self limiting in rpm speed and can fly apart from excessive RPM and or burn not to mention damage to the flywheel ring gear teeth. Then you have an even bigger problem.
Good luck.
