New to me 2008 F-150
Sure hope I made the right decision with this truck.
It's a 2008 SuperCab with the 5.4l triton engine.
The seller (local dealership) did a bunch of work on it:
-Timing cover gasket set
-Timing chain kit
-Crank position sensor
-Cam gear phasers(x2)
-The timing solenoid(x2)
-Valve cover gasket set
-Camshaft Sol seal(2)
-and one parking sensor
Since I did a bit of research before purchase. I had them include a spark plug change.
I have a ScanGageII that I pluged in and went for a drive. was getting around 19-20 on the hiway, and averaged 16-17 overall.
Truck ran super smooth, no cam phaser roughness and some descent power (although not as much as the 3.5 ecoboost!)
It is a local truck to the area (BC Canada) no accident claims and only one driver. Hope I made the right choice!
I'm hoping to pull a 24-26 foot trailer one day...
Cheers!
Chris

I'll take a look for the brown COP boots. (You have to pull the coils to look right?)
Good to know about the fuel driver too. As soon as I get the truck back, I'll take a look at these.
So the main issues are the Phasers, Plugs and this driver?
Any thing else I can be proactive with?
5w-20 oil, semi or full syn? (And how much does it hold?)
Is it safe to assume I have a towing Cap of 7,200lbs?
I'd also like to know the diff gearing as well, where could I find that?(Stamped on the diff somewhere?)
Thanks for the info. I like the truck, and it'll be my daily driver so I'm hoping for the best!

I'd recommend 5W20 Motorcraft synthetic blend and a Motorcraft FL820S filter. It holds 7 quarts, change it at least every 5000 miles.
You have a 3.73 limited slip rear (B6), tow rating is 9400#. Note that you will probably run out of payload capacity before you reach that number, the tongue weight counts against that. The weight on the 2 truck axles should not exceed 7200# (GVWR) with the trailer hooked up and the truck loaded and ready to roll.
You have a build date of 06/08, you very likely have the new 1 piece plug heads.

I haven't been able to confirm myself, but I've been told by the mechanic that there is one piece plugs in the truck
Seems like it have the odometer LED issue (Turns on and off by itself)
This truck is also equipped with the backup warning sensors, and these seem intermittent as well.
I know the dealer I purchased it from had a sensor replaced, so I'll inquire about any warranty with it.
On a side note, seems I'm getting about 13mpg sigh... but having said that, 80% of that is literally bumper to bumper traffic.
(Literally idling in first gear for about 5miles with a few blurps of gas from time to time)
I also have the larger gas tank as well. I had 1/3 of a tank, and added 26.5 gallons.
Through some research, I have found tanks sizes to be: 26, 27, 30 and 36. With having a 3rd tank, I'm assuming the 36 gallon tank.
I'll run it till the light come on to verify next time.
There is no dirt/rust in the hitch receiver so not sure if any trailer was ever hooked up?!
So other than the odo light, and backup sensors, truck seems to be in great shape.
Cheers!
