Question Leaky trans cooler fittings

Well boys this is my first post. I have searched and wrenched and am ready to blow my brains out over this leaky truck. I just bought a 2004 f150 fx4. Really like the truck. Noticed a tiny little atf puddle under the front of the truck. Closer inspection revealed a drip coming from the passenger side line/fitting that goes into the trans fluid auxillary cooler. It's leaking out of the center of the bushing and runs down the hard line. Tried tightening it, no luck. Took it off and found a pretty tore up o ring around the base of the bushing. Replaced it, no luck. I have messed with it on and off for days and CAN NOT get it to quit leaking. I removed the o ring completely, and it doesn't seem to change a thing. PLEASE HELP. I am at wit's end with this.

Should the flare end of the hard line stick out past the bushing?? IS there a flared end?? The end of the hard line is inside the bushing. It's the same on both lines. No matter how tight I get it, the hard line moves around inside the bushing easily...

Sorry for the desperate intro, but here I am.

I haven't messed with the tranny cooler lines, at the cooler, but did replace the cooler loop valve with 4 of the hard lines running into it. All were tight (no play once tightened down). Any chance the fitting threads are cross threaded so they feel tight but the seal/o-ring isn't seating? If you can take a couple pics might help of the fitting with the line off. Not much help, but I've had cooler lines in a previous truck strip (rather than cross thread). So that's all that's coming to mind...

Thanks for the reply. But no, I am certain the fittings are not cross-threaded. I have one more day of work before days off, and then I am going to fix it. Going to try to rig it up with either some compression fittings or do a flare job and band it. The local Ford shop wants $65 for a new line. That will be my last option. I will try to get some pics and document what I end up with.

Ends up the difficulty was finding the correct fitting to plug into the cooler. It is not a flare type fit. As I mentioned, the atf was leaking out the center of the bushing.

I got educated by the hydraulic hose guy. He showed me how these fittings have a c clip in the back of them with an o ring on top. Didn't really show up in the pic, but I could see it with the naked eye. Not sure what kind of tool you could use with such limited clearance to remove the clip, but if you could, you could simply replace the o ring inside the bushing.

Instead of messing with that, he just built me a hyd. hose that screwed right in. $20.

The 3/8" double hose barb us a little ghetto, but I believe it will last. Most importantly, no leaky!
