Thinking about putting the red FX4 appearance package badges on my 07. Now I know the fender badges will work but what about the tailgate? From the few pics I have seen of the back side, they look to be clipped in. Anybody done this? I'm assuming they are flat as well right?

 

Are you talking about the 09+ badges? If so, you need to get the tailgate badge for the flareside. The styleside version doesn't work on the 04-08 trucks.

 

The ones that come out on the 2012's. Heck I've got pics but I can't figure out how to post them now.

 

Hmm, if they didn't offer them in 2009, I'm not sure how they'll work. The flareside was only available for 2009, I believe, and since the tailgate is smooth on that model just like the 04-08, that is the one that'll line up and fit perfectly.

The 09+ styleside trucks have those 3 grooves on the tailgate, and the badge for those are modified to fit in the groove, so it wouldn't line up and fit flush on our 04-08 smooth tailgate.

Not sure if it's possible, but you might be able to modify the badge to make it work.

 

Well my local stealership has one on their used lot so I'm going to take a look at it tomorrow and see if they will work. I really want the black and red emblems because mine are starting to bubble up and I need to do something.

 

Are you talking about the "FORD" emblem or the "F-150" emblem? For some reason I was thinking you meant the f150 emblem, but if it's the ford emblem you're speaking of (you mention its bubbling and the only ones that bubble and peel are the ford emblem), then yeah, that will definitely fit the tailgate without issue.

But again, if you're speaking of the f150 emblem, they won't line up correctly unless they're from a flareside.

 

No I'm already on my second Ford emblem and I'm going to just get a billet grille. The F150 fender badges are bubbling.

 

Bingo! Finally figured it out again. The back of the F150 badge has two rectangular clips but it appears to be flat.
