HELP!!! In need of a Xmas miracle.....sort of

Hey everyone been a long time since I was last here, and after making an horrific discovery about my beloved 2005 F150 I figured I'd start here for any suggestions and orc advice. Real quick:Wednesday afternoon without any warning, my truck came to an altmost dead stop with a lot of jerking and a noise like teeth ginding. Pulled over immediately shut it off and looked underneath, already with an idea of what was wrong and sure enough, it was the driveshaft bearing having taken a dump on me after 265,000 miles of happy driving (I wasn't happy about, but I wasn't pissed about either, a friend once telling me the truck owes me nothing). Well a AAA tow later and the purchase of a $17 center support bearing I'm at my buddy's shop to get the new bearing pressed onto the driveshaft, just to be told that my 2 piece driveshaft is NONSERVICABLE and I have to get a new one!!! My question is,has anyone else experienced this? And if so, what is the best recommendation? I have $17 for the new bearing, but I sure as heck don't have $500 for a new driveshaft!! There's nothing wrong with the driveshaft I already have and I unfortunately have to get back on the road. I love Ford but what dumb*** idea for them to come up with! !! The truck is a 2005 150, supercab 8' bed 4x4 w/the H.D payload package. Anybody out there PLEASE PLEASE help me. Boy, don't I sound pathetic.

They actually do now make a U-joint service kit for these staked in non serviceable driveshafts. It includes the cutter to cut the staking out and a special U-joint to put back with clips. It comes only as a kit, so 3 joints = 3 kits. Problem is there are many who report short life and bad fit .... and appearantly that doesn't help with the center support bearing coming off from what I've read.

If it were me, if I had time ..... I'ld look at a custom driveshaft maker to make me a serviceable 2 piece rear DS with CSB .... or look for a '06 or later same WB F-150 in a JY with two piece rear DS with clips holding U-joint caps and a serviceable center support. My '07 has serviceable U-joints ..... but also only one piece rear DS so I can't speak to center support service except as it applies to my '77.

I went through the same thing, and unless you can find a used one there's not much else you can do other than buy a new or reman one.

I bought mine from here

I believe Napa or autozone has the kit you need. My uncle had the same thing happen. Bought the kit and all is well

They have kits for the U-joints, but the center bearing on the 2 piece driveshaft is not serviceable.

Just out of curiosity ..... not that it'll help the original poster .... but does that apply to all 2 piece '04 up driveshafts or just those with the staked in place U-joints?

Thanks for the replys

Just so everyone knows, the u-joints on the particular driveshafts are serviceable and yes 3 altogether, the problem is with the bearing, well the fact that you can't seperate the yolk from the shaft to replace the bearing, which still brings you to the fact that it's a $17 bearing that's broken, and yet you have to replace a $500 shaft fix it. Its just idiotic

I ran into the same problem when replacing u joints on my '04 in July. I had a driveline shop rebuild the entire driveshaft and it ran me $293 with tax. Drives like new now
