Front differential trial and error

Hello posters,

I am going to be performing a fluid swap on the front end of my '07 4x4 Lariat. In the process, I am going to attempt to swap out the OEM diff cover for a G2 aluminum cover (40-2013AL).

If anyone has any advice before I turn a wrench let me know. Otherwise I'll keep y'all updated as soon as I'm done on whether or not the process was successful. The cover measures approximately 3 1/4"-3 3/8" deep. I'll be sure to note any challenges along the way.

Good luck and take lots of pictures. I tried doing mine, but didn't have enough time to remove everything that was in the way.

Epic fail

Once the stock cover came off, in comparison the G2 cover was just about the same depth. Luckily before I applied the RTV I tried the cover up to the front diff housing, and despite being the same overall depth, the dimensions of the small protrusions that serve to increase the gear oil volume internally made the cover not fit.

In conclusion, G2 40-2013AL 8.8 does NOT fit as a front differential cover replacement for 2007 F150 Lariats. I would imagine the same for all 04-08's, but since mine is an 07 and I ONLY tried on an 07 I cannot speak to anything else.

Good luck! If anyone finds a better fit let me know!!
