Can't get into 4wd low?

I have a 2006 f150 5.4 triton. I recently got a remanufactured engine installed (thank god for the warranty). Now, I can shift into 4wd high but I can't seem to get if into low. It's not the button it is the **** on the floor. I'll put my truck into neutral and let go of the break and try to go into low. When I do, it makes a grinding sound and the **** vibrates pretty hard. So I don't try to force it anymore. It illuminates when I start the truck by the way . Any thoughts?

Try it with engine off. Might also try doing it in park. That's how I do it usually on my '77 with manual transfer case going into 4Lo. In that case it's because 4Hi and 2Hi are on one side of neutral in the TC and 4Lo on the other side (frt to rear 4Lo-N-2Hi-4Hi)..... so if I try to do it with transmission in neutral also ..... windage in transmission starts the input side of TC turning when TC goes through it's neutral.

My '07 has electric shift, 2HI-4Hi-4Lo on the dial, no neutral in TC ..... but I see in owners book that it's 2Hi-4Hi-N-4Lo on the manual TC and I see the book says it should go in using N in transmission.

I see. I could give that a shot. I have no idea why it's doing this.

The manual says to do it with the vehicle stopped in N with your foot on the brake.

I've tried it like that and it does the same thing.

Have you thought about going back to whomever installed the engine and asking them to look at it? The manual transfer case lever (as opposed to the ESOF switch on the dash) is a pretty reliable system. I'm wondering if they messed up the linkage during the installation.

They might've. Do you think that could be the reason why? And I'll probably take it to another mechanic if I have someone check it. Would it be difficult to check? I know my current mechanic had the manifold out recently to change the actulator. I don't know if that's near it or not?

Whenever doing major work on a vehicle, "collateral damage" is always a possibility. I don't know what an "actulator" is or where it sits. The system itself is pretty simple, so troubleshooting it is pretty straight forward.

The actulator sits on the manifold on the back. From my understanding it's supposed to help with gas etc. Alright. I guess I'll see if they will troubleshoot it and find out for me. I hope it's good.
