New '08 FX2 owner

Some may recognize my handle as I have been in the Lightning scene for a long time. Still have the Lightning, but I went big crazy turbo custom build and every season it is down, dealing with another hiccup/bug.

I am picking up a white FX2 supercab tomorrow evening. Stock 4.6 with the only mod being a Retrax bed cover. Has 52k on the truck, lightly winter driven here in Toronto. Undercarriage is solid, doors, tailgate and rockers solid. The painted front bumper, painted nerf bars, and painted rear bumper show signs of rust. I will be removing them all, blasting them, painting the bumpers and likely powdercoating the nerf bars. Interior is also MINT, leather etc.
Picking it up for 14,000.00 which is a very fair price for the market in my area.

Few questions:
- Recalls on this year?
- I believe it was also the 5.4 that had the plug issues, some being rectified in early/mid 2008. Therefore I assume the 4.6 is solid, no issues known of?
- Owner had the driveshaft changed under warranty a few years ago, apparently a known problem/design flaw....?
- Lastly, and most importantly, WHERE THE HELL DO I FIND SALEEN WHEELS?!

And since I do not have pics of the '08 at this moment, I will pic ***** my other Ford:

Sounds like an awesome new truck, congrats.

Everyone around here seems to have good luck with the 4.6. My friend has that engine in his 2005, he does no maintenance to it besides oil (if he remembers) and it has 200k on it and drives great. All original plugs and everything. Ha, not that Id do that, but he doesn't care and also drives it like a jerk. My dad also has that engine in his mustang. Seems to be one of the more solid engines these trucks came with. No plug issues with the 2v 4.6, just the 3v 5.4.

I think the super cabs come with a two piece drive shaft and those are the ones that have issues. My 2008 reg cab has the one piece and I have almost 100k on it and haven't had any issues or heard/felt anything weird.

As far as recalls, there are none for my 08. But there's a site you can plug your vin into just to check. Just go a Google search for recalls and you'll find anything you need.

14K seem like in the high end to me especially for a 4,6.
I paid 17K 4 year ago for my 07 5,4 in quebec

still a nice truck. the 4,6 is a good engine.

good luck to find saleen wheel. they are rare and the bad part is limited tire choice. look for 2008 22" harley or limited

I put 08 fx2 20's on my 07 since to look so good.

Quebec pricing always seems to be lower. I've found comparables in the past vs Ontario and there's usuly a 10% difference.

Clean truck, sounds like a good purchase. The market for vehicles is much different than it was 4 years ago. Newer costs more and used cost more. Life. I say buy it and enjoy it.

And beautiful Lightning.

Another question:
Looking to swap my front bumper to the 08 Harley. Is this plug and play for hardware?
The metal portion of the bumper needs rust repair and I am not a fan of the lower plastic valance that the truck currently has. The Harley has the plain rounded which looks better.

it's only the lower lip that's different.

it's the exact same metal bumper

I personnally prefer the FX2 lip to the HD one :|

Thanks for the reply. I figured it was just the valance that was different. Can't seem to find a part# for the HD valance.

I also prefer the FX2 and/or Roush lower valance. The less-rounded look is more aggressive.

Dirty. The bumper does need some minor rust repair and paint, hence why I want to swap the valance. Does no one have the part # for the HD/Limited valance?

As mentioned already, the Harley valance is just that, the Harley version bolted onto a standard bumper. I love mine.

Part # for the valance is 6L3Z-17626-CAPTM, current price on Tasca is $407.97.

The valance looks great, black hides it very well. The 2008 Limited has the Harley valance. You can actually see it on those trucks.

Tell me about it... I was told my truck was still worth a lot because of the Ford ESP and the condition, and that I could get $12k for trade from my local Ford dealer this past January. When I paid $19k for it after taxes and tags. So after roughly 8 years, it's around $900 to own my truck in depreciation figures?

Yeah, good for me... but I'm like... huh!? Who really wants a manual f150 from 2007 in 2015...

I can only imagine how long it would sit and rot away on the lot... there is a very small market niche for my type truck, especially in this area. They probably wouldn't make a profit off of it, or if they did, it would be quite insignificant. Unless I'm missing something.

I don't plan on getting rid of it... I like having no truck payments. Even if I have to do some work on it occasionally.

I love having no truck payments! That's why I chose an older model when I bought mine 2 years ago. You should check out the Shelby Supersnake bumper cover. It slips over the metal one very similar the Lightning. As far as Saleen wheels, I had to drive to Detroit from a Craigslist ad. Check it often, there's usually a set for sale somewhere but you may have to drive to get them.
