2005 Fail to Start - Injector Warranty ?

I got my 2005 FX4 Crew Cab out yesterday. I drove it 1.1 miles to the gas station and shut it off to fill it up. It was off for maybe 5 minutes.

I went to start it and it didn't start. Turned everything down and off so I could hear and tried it again. Starter turned the engine for a split second and then sounded like it rebounded (like a pull start lawn mower hitting a compression stroke and spinning the other way).

Tried it 3 more times and then finally held the pedal to the floor. It started that time and I saw an abnormal cloud of white smoke (could have be condensation as it was cold yesterday).

After the 3 or 4th try to start, I thought it was the injector problem.
Laying in bed last night, I started to get sick to my stomach thinking about it again. Hydro-locking and bending a connecting rod.

My truck only has 36,900 miles on it. Does this sound like the injector problem and will Ford take care of me if it needs a new engine?

I only had my truck out because I put new front end parts on my Mercury car and I have to get an alignment on Thursday.

Hey.

Job 1 - check the FPDM: https://www.f150online.com/forums/ar...placement.html

Job 2 - read & address ASAP: http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/sd...229_r07m08.pdf

Good luck

I've read about the FPDM a while back and it's on the to do list. My truck is almost never out in rainy conditions and rarely sees snow.

I remember getting the letter about the injectors years ago and thinking "injectors filling cylinder with fuel, that's good for connecting rods."

I'm not going to try starting again, thinking about having the dealer come get it and checking it over.

Copy that.

The FPDM is easy to check & replace - if you replace it, it's only ~$50 - if a dealer does, it'll be ~$200.

As for injectors - another quick no-cost check: pull the fuel rail with all injectors intact and place on a bunch of clean paper towels. Turn ignition on ( but obviously do not start it, lol) to prime the fuel system. Look fer any leaks - there should be absolutely none. At that point if you DO see leakage, insist upon replacement for all 8, not the leaky one. That will be on yer dime.

If you don't see any leakage after a good long while, it's likely yer FPDM - and you dodged a bullet. I'd still get new model injectors to sleep better at night, myself. FPDM's can fail too. After 10 years sitting under there, corrosion is cumulative.

While injectors are out and the fuel pump cutoff switch tripped, you can turn over the engine to blow out any trapped fuel if it hasn't already drained into the oil pan ( requiring an immediate oil & filter change).

Yer cats will need checking as well - raw fuel downstream will destory them in short order.

In short - the more 'DIY' diagnosis you do, the more you could save, if yer handy. Certainly if an injector diag comes up negative, it'll cost ye $$$ out-of-pocket.

good luck

I got all the plugs out without breaking on Sunday. I cracked them loose Friday night and hit them with Deep Creep and then carb cleaner the next day.
Pulled the injectors out and turned key to on and saw no drips.

Blew the cylinders out with compressed air and number 6 or 7 had quite a bit of brown dust come out. Not sure what to make of that, maybe gas was pooling and dissolving the carbon on the piston?

Rotated the crank over by hand and I was hearing something. My dad thought it might have been the AC compressor...

Anyway, going to order new injectors. What lb/hr are the factory ones rated? What brand do you guys use?

Order new Motorcraft injectors for that engine, they will be the improved model. Part number CM5138, $35.79 each plus shipping at rockauto.com, $37.97 at Summit Racing, free shipping over $99.

I've put about 200 miles on it with the new plugs and injectors.
There doesn't seem to be any problems with it.

Thanks for the help
