Horn beeps twice on keyfob open

Hi,

I'm new to this forum

I just purchased a 2005 F150 Lariat SuperCrew. I noticed something strange when opening the door with the keyfob. When I press the lock button it beeps once like I would expect it to. When I press the unlock button, the horn beeps twice. I tested it a few time and it always beeps twice when opening the door with the keyfob. I have owned several Ford cars and trucks and I don't remember this occuring. I think the truck is completely stock with the exception of the radio/nav

Is this normal for a 2005 F150?

Thanks
Mark

Have you read your owner's manual? If you didn't get one you can download one from Ford, no charge.

I did look through the manual. It talked about it beeping when you lock the truck but nothing about when you open it.

Ok, so here is what I found out:
On my window is a sticker with Karr Security. I have a small box with a blue LED down near the bottom of the steering wheel. I was told by my dealer that the truck had a dealer installed alarm but it was disabled, that seems to be incorrect. My question now is, is this Karr alarm better then the factory alarm?
I did some testing and activated the alarm with the windows open, waited 60 sec and started jumping on the running boards. Nothing happend so I assume it has no motion sensor. I opened the door and the alarm went off. Is this any better/different than the factory alarm

Probably the same as the factory alarm. They will have door-trigger sensors, and possibly a motion/vibration sensor but it takes quite a bit to set them off. Car alarms are about useless these days as most people don't even bat an eye when a car alarm goes off. The only saving grace is something that has an ignition/fuel interrupt that prevents it from being stolen entirely, as the noise/lights don't stop most thieves from breaking windows and stealing stereos/personal items in less than a minute.

Ahh yes, I have the KARR alarm as well. Mine has served me well for years. I think its a better alarm. Mine will give a 5 honk chirp if a loud car or motorcycle goes by so it might sense vibrations too. The factory fob may just lock and unlock doors, I'll try tomorrow with the factory fob and see if I can tell any differences.
