Sorry to resurface this again but was just thinking about cleaning up my frame. What kind of rustoleum did you use? Just a normal black spray can?

Yep. I use either semi gloss or satin. Either look great. I use the Rustoleum bed liner rattle cans inside the wheel wells too.

Do you just spray in there or do you cover some things up when painting? I'm thinking about doing this but don't wanna do a half *** job.

If you already have rust, you might consider POR-15 instead of Rustoleum.

The first few times I did this, I taped off any metal colored bolts, wheel wells, etc. after that, I got sick of that much work and also decided to use bed liner in the wheel wells so the only thing I taped off were the wheel well lips. I normally do it before a spring detail, so overspray isn't much of an issue as I take a clay bar to the whole truck after.

As glc said, if you have rust, definitely go with por 15. I actually liked rust bullet more than por 15. I've used both.

What were you looking at? If you just get a quart, it's right around the same price as por 15, maybe a little cheaper and doesn't require all the prep that por 15 needs to bond.

I don't have any rust really, lately I've just been redoing faded parts and bringing them back to life. I've done wiper cowl, step bars (chrome to black) fixing to do handles next and mirror caps.

I hear you. I respray my undercarriage every spring. Please post some pics when you're done, Id like to see. Another note on taping things off, it really depends on how "factory" you want it to look. If you want it to look just as it did when new, only paint the frame, axle, suspension, cross members, etc. otherwise, you can paint your wheel wells and the entire underside of the bed as I did. Then you have nothing to really worry about under there.

Ps here are some picture taken this past fall. I used semi gloss last time. This truck is driven through salt all winter for the past 7 years.

Ok those pictures helped a lot. I was unsure if you did leaf springs and u bolts but I have a better grasp of it now. May do it today since its a wonderful 72°F out today! May even wash the truck for the first time this year!

Glad the photos were able to help a bit. I'm jealous of that weather, please send some up north!

Enjoy, and feel free to comment here if you have any other questions.
